General
Telephony in the rear allows the vehicle occupants in the rear passenger compartment to use Bluetooth® telephony independently via the rear telephone receiver. Depending on the equipment installed, the following options are available for operating the telephony in the rear:
- Rear telephone receiver and mobile phone voice control
- Tablet PC
- Rear compartment entertainment
A mobile phone in the rear passenger compartment can be charged wirelessly via the rear mobile phone cradle. Depending on the equipment installed, the mobile phone cradle in the rear passenger compartment has its own antenna connection to the vehicle's external antennas. This means that a mobile phone in the rear passenger compartment can also be used to make a call via the vehicle's external antennas if the telephone control unit is not used.
Telephony via the rear telephone receiver
The Bluetooth® interface integrated into the rear telephone receiver sends and receives telephone signals from the vehicle. The hands-free profile (HFP), and the serial port profile (SPP) are used for rear telephone receiver communication.
In the case of an incoming call, the call signal sounds from the rear telephone receiver and the vehicle speaker system if the mute function on the rear telephone receiver is not activated. The call is displayed via an LED on the rear telephone receiver. In addition, the call is shown on the rear displays and on the display of the multimedia system. The head unit mutes the currently active audio source (e.g. during radio mode).
Switching between an active call and a held call (call switching), and conference calls are possible when making telephone calls with the rear telephone receiver.
Voice control system
If the rear telephone receiver's voice control system button is pushed, the mobile phone's voice control system is activated. For rear telephony, the user can e.g. establish a telephone call via voice commands in this manner.
Privacy Mode
If the "Privacy Mode" button of the rear telephone receiver is activated, incoming calls and messages are made/sent anonymously without caller identification. Contact data and messages of the connected mobile phone or SIM card are not displayed.
Mute function
If the mute function button of the rear telephone receiver is pressed during a call, the microphone in the rear telephone receiver is switched off. Otherwise, the output of the call signal on the head unit and the rear telephone receiver is muted on actuation of the mute function button.
Accept connection from head unit
An incoming call can be accepted on the rear telephone receiver or the head unit. If the call has been accepted on the head unit, it can be transferred to the rear telephone receiver. Transfer to the rear telephone receiver is activated by pressing the rear telephone receiver's accept phone call button.
Charging station
If the rear telephone receiver is in the charging station, it can be charged and woken up by the head unit.
The rear telephone receiver can also be charged via a micro USB port on the device. The rear telephone receiver indicates the charge level.
