Actuate Turn Signal Light, Basic Function - GF82.10-P-1023A

Model all (CAR)

General

The turn signal light actuation consists of all functions for output of the turn signal, various warnings and feedback.

The various requests to issue the function are prioritized by the exterior lighting control unit (vehicle-specific either the central controller unit or the front central controller unit). Turn signaling can be overridden by the hazard warning flasher function, and vice versa. The exterior lighting control unit sends a flasher frequency with the time period for the bright phase of the turn signal lights over CAN to the corresponding control units.

The respective active function is indicated by indicator lamps and also signaled acoustically.

If a turn signal light fails, the frequency at which the indicator lamps are actuated is doubled, as is the frequency of the acoustic feedback. The flashing frequency of the turn signal lights of 1.5 Hz remains the same.

Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) vehicles

During turn signal light actuation, the daytime running lights are switched off.

Canada version or USA version

During turn signal light actuation, the daytime running lights are dimmed to position light level.

Turn signals

The turn signaling indicates the vehicle's intended direction of travel.

Function requirement

Operating principle

Pressing the combination switch downwards or upwards requests turn signaling in the corresponding direction.

If the combination switch is only operated briefly (under 440 ms), three blinking cycles are output (one-touch turn signaling).

On vehicles with Active Parking Assist, the system requests turn signaling during the assisted parking procedure.

IMPORTANT The one-touch turn signaling is overridden by the hazard warning flasher or canceled if the combination switch is activated in the opposite direction.

Vehicles with trailer hitch

During trailer operation, the turn signal light on the trailer is also actuated. The exterior lighting control unit requests actuation of the turn signal lights on the trailer. The trailer recognition control unit implements this request.

Hazard warning flashing

During hazard warning flashing, all turn signal lights on the vehicle are actuated synchronously. Depending on the ignition status, two duty cycles are output:

IMPORTANT If a turn signal light fails during hazard warning flashing, the frequency at which the indicator lamps are actuated is doubled but the frequency of the acoustic feedback is not.

Hazard warning flashing can be triggered manually via the hazard warning lights button.

Hazard warning flashing after maximum full-stop braking (not for Canada version or USA version)

If the vehicle was decelerated by maximum full-stop braking from a speed of at least 70 km/h to less than 3 km/h, the hazard warning flashers are automatically activated. The hazard warning flasher is deactivated by pressing the hazard warning lights button or upon exceeding a speed of 10 km/h.

Hazard warning flashing after emergency stop (vehicles with Driving Assistance Package)

If the vehicle is decelerated below the speed of 60 km/h due to an emergency stop, the hazard warning flasher is automatically activated. As long as the vehicle is not decelerated below 3 km/h, the hazard warning flasher is also switched off when the emergency stop is over. The hazard warning flasher continues to operate below 3 km/h. The hazard warning flasher is deactivated by pressing the hazard warning lights button or upon exceeding a speed of 10 km/h.

The hazard warning flasher during emergency stop function is not available in the following countries:

Hazard warning flashing after airbag deployment

When an airbag is deployed or during a rollover of the vehicle (crash signal sent), the hazard warning flasher is automatically activated. The hazard warning flasher is deactivated by pressing the hazard warning lights button.

CL locking/unlocking feedback

The hazard warning flasher is automatically activated when the CL is locked/unlocked. When the CL is unlocked, the hazard warning flashing function is activated for one blinking cycle; three blinking cycles are output when it is locked.

Hazard warning flashing for alarm (vehicles with ATA)

The hazard warning flasher is automatically activated when an ATA or emergency alarm is triggered.
