Electrical Power Steering Control Unit (ES), Component Description - GF46.35-P-7010GW
Model 463 (except 463.342)
as of model year 2019
Location
The electrical power steering control unit is mounted onto the rack-and-pinion steering gear.
Tasks
The electrical power steering control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Transmission of requests/information
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Suspension FlexRay (Flex E)
Direct line
The electrical power steering control unit reads in the signals from the electric power steering torque sensor via a direct line.
Chassis FlexRay
The electrical power steering control unit also reads in the following signals via chassis FlexRay:
- Steering assistance torque request and wheel speeds, from the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4)
- "Drivetrain operational" status, "engine running" status and engine speed, from ME-SFI control unit (N3/10) (gasoline engines) or from CDI control unit (N3/9) (diesel engines) via engine CAN (CAN C) and powertrain control unit (N127)
- Steering wheel angle (detected by steering wheel angle sensor (N49)) and steering angle speed, from steering column tube module control unit (N80)
- Requested toothed rack position, vehicle stop signal and current status of parking system control unit (N62) (with code EZ8 (PARKTRONIC))
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors which are read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor, the relevant components are then actuated and requests/information are output.
Actuation of components
The electrical power steering control unit actuates the electric power steering actuator motor via direct lines.
Transmission of requests/information
The electrical power steering control unit sends the following requests/information via chassis FlexRay:
- Request for a warning message over the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster (A1)
- Steering torque, steering angle rate of change and steering assistance status to the Electronic Stability Program control unit
- Current status of the electrical power steering control unit
