Opening Engine Hood, Moving To Upright Position And Closing - AR88.40-P-1000XG

WARNING Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
  Open     
1 Pull release lever (1) in driver foot well to release hood (2). IMPORTANT Hood (2) opens until end stop of safety hook (3).  
2 Slightly lift hood (2), actuate safety hook (3) and open hood (2). IMPORTANT Wiper arms may not be folded forward in this connection.  
  Position vertically and secure     
3 Release thumb screw (6.1), install support (6) between lock striker (7) and hood catch (8) in suitable length and tighten thumb screw (6.1). SPECIAL TOOL Support Fig 1
4 Remove safety clips (5) at pneumatic springs (4) at top at bottom on left and right in vehicle using a suitable tool.    
5 Pry off pneumatic springs (4) from ball heads and remove.    
6 Release thumb screw (6.1) at support (6), bring hood (2) to vertical position (a) and then tighten thumb screw (6.1). NOTES When releasing the thumb screw (6.1), secure hood (2) against falling down.
NOTES Hood (2) will otherwise be damaged.
Do not exceed the max. opening angle (a) when positioning the hood (2) vertically. Hood (2), wiper arms (9) and components located in their surroundings will otherwise be damaged.
IMPORTANT Helper required.
IMPORTANT Max. opening angle a = 800 SPECIAL TOOL Support

  Release and close     
7 Release thumb screw (6.1) at support (6), lower hood (2) until pneumatic springs (4) can be installed, then tighten thumb screw (6.1). NOTES When releasing the thumb screw (6.1), secure hood (2) against falling down.
Hood (2) will otherwise be damaged.
IMPORTANT Helper required.
SPECIAL TOOL Support

8 Attach pneumatic springs (4) at top and bottom to ball heads and install safety clips (5) in pneumatic springs (4).    
9 Release thumb screw (6.1), remove support (6) from lock striker (7) and hood catch (8). NOTES When releasing thumb screw (6.1), check stable location of opened hood (2).
Hood (2) will otherwise fall down.

10 Close hood (2), press down in the center and lock.    
INSPECT Check     
11 Check that hood (2) is correctly locked.
