The following work instructions describe the procedure for the online software calibration number (SCN) coding with Xentry Flash.

The SCN coding data is requested by fax from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.

For the Off-line fallback process Daimler ERG reserves the right to invoice 9 EUR per fax query.

Precondition for offline SCN coding:

• STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system with printer
• Fax device

The offline SCN coding is broken down into 2 steps:

1. Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding from the vehicle. The vehicle data is required when filling out the fax form for ordering the SCN coding data from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.
2. Perform SCN coding. The coding is performed using the SCN coding from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.

1. Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding from the vehicle. 
   1. Select the control unit in Xentry Diagnostics (XD).
   2. Select menu item "control unit adaptations" or "initial startup".
   3. Select menu item "SCN coding".
   4. Select menu item "Offline (Star Diagnosis device not networked)".
   5. Confirm note on sequence of SCN coding with.
   6. Completely fill out fax form and click to print out.

      If an email address is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per email. If a fax number is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per fax.

   7. Send the printed-out fax form to the given fax number of the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.
2. Perform SCN coding. The coding is performed using the SCN coding data from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk. 

   If the SCN coding data is received by email, burn the data to a CD or save the data on a USB removable storage device and mark accordingly. Unpack the Zip files first when doing so.

   1. 8 In XD, select the menu item "Step 2: Perform SCN coding".
   2. 9.1 For SCN coding data per fax.

      Selection of keyboard input.

   3. 9.2 For SCN coding data per email.

      Insert CD or connect USB removable storage device.

      To change control units to write mode for SCN coding, an unlocking code (key) is required for the respective control unit. If the regular Xentry flash online procedures are used, this is automated and queried without user intervention at the central systems. In the offline fallback solution, the user is prompted by Xentry Diagnostics to ask for the activation code by phone from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk. A detailed process description can be found in the INFO information system.

   4. 10.1 For SCN coding data per fax.

      Enter SCN coding data manually into the DAS.

   5. 10.2 For SCN coding data per email.

      Import the data via CD or USB removable storage device.

   6. 11 Perform SCN coding data.
   7. 12 Switch ignition on/off.

      Depends on control unit; refer to specification in XD.

   8. 13 Print out order log and enclose repair order.

      The order log can also be stored in Star Diagnosis system. This is done via the print menu "Print to file". In StarUtilities, the StarPad program can be used to display and printout the order log at the "Logs" menu item.

      The SCN coding of the control unit is completed. After successful SCN coding, scrap the CD as per the guidelines for theft-relevant parts (DTR 69/00). The scrapping process is to be documented on the repair order. The data on the USB removable storage device are to be deleted properly once they have been used.
