Location
The special vehicle multifunction control unit (MSS) is located under the driver seat.
Task
The special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU [MSS]) has the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Output of signals
Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via direct lines:
- Inside microphone (B25/3)
- PAS control unit (N26/8)
- Fire extinguishing system control unit (N100)
- Front emergency alarm system button (S62/16)
- Rear emergency alarm system button (S62/17)
Interior CAN
The special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU) reads in, for example, the following signals via the interior CAN:
- Terminal status of terminal 15
- Status of the central locking (CL)
- Exterior lights status
- Vehicle speed
- Engine running status

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor whereupon the relevant signals are then issued.
Output of signals
The signals are output via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Interior CAN
Direct line
The following components are actuated via direct lines:
- Additional battery charge indicator lamp (E39)
- Battery cutoff relay (K57)
- Fire extinguishing system control unit
Interior CAN
The special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU) sends, for example, the following signals via the interior CAN:
- Request for static low beams
- High beam request flashing on and off
- Alarm request flashing on and off
- CL closing request
- Request for switching on "recirculated air"
- Request for blower motor
