Remove/Install Rear Axle Differential - AR35.31-P-0522OLC

Model 213 (except 213.088/089/288/289), 238

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.		 AS00.40-Z-0001-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.		 AS00.00-Z-0017-01A
  Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process   AH00.00-P-0020-01A
  Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
  Notes on repair work on suspension components   AH00.00-P-0100-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-0100CW
2 Remove right rear axle shaft (37).   AR35.30-P-0621OLC
3 Unfasten underfloor paneling on inside.   AR61.30-P-1001LWE
4 Detach heat shield under propeller shaft intermediate bearing.    
5 Remove crossmember under propeller shaft intermediate bearing. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, reinforcement under seat to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1005-01L 
6 Unfasten propeller shaft intermediate bearing. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, propeller shaft intermediate bearing to frame floor assembly *BA41.40-P-1001-01H 
7 Detach propeller shaft (7) from joint flange on rear axle differential (50) and secure to prevent it from bending.   AR41.10-P-0040-01LW
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Drift for releasing the fitting sleeves in the flexible couplings   WF58.50-P-4110-01A
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 238Flexible coupling to transmission/rear axle differential or propeller shaft *BA41.10-P-1001-01N 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 213 (except 213.088/089/288/289) Flexible coupling to transmission/rear axle differential or propeller shaft *BA41.10-P-1001-01M 
    SPECIAL TOOL Counterholder Fig 1
8 Prop up rear axle differential (50) and lash down securely.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
9 Remove bolts (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear axle differential to rear transverse bridge *BA35.10-P-1006-01H 
10 Remove screw (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Rear axle differential to front adapter *BA35.10-P-1005-01H 
11 Lower rear axle differential (50) slightly.    
12 Remove spacer ring (9).    
13 Secure left rear axle shaft (37) to prevent it from falling. I  
14 Pry left rear axle shaft (37) out of rear axle differential (50). IMPORTANT Do not rest the assembly lever on the protective ring (37a). Support the assembly lever on rear axle differential (50) using e.g. a socket wrench.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining ring (37o) on inner splined profile.		  
15 Remove rear axle differential (50) downwards to the right.    
16 Install in the reverse order    
17 Check oil level in rear axle differential (50) and correct if necessary.   AR35.31-P-0520-08OLC
REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE Differentiating characteristics of aluminum differential housings   GF35.31-P-0002-01A
    IMPORTANT Observe differentiating features in order to determine the correct oil filling capacity.
