Location
The touch pad is located on the center console.
Tasks
The touchpad is the central control for various telematics functions.
The touchpad can be used to operate the functions shown on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8). To this end, the touch pad fulfills the following tasks:
- Touch-sensitive registration of control signals
- Receiving signals
- Sending signals
Touch-sensitive registration of control signals
The user input (operating gestures, including pressing, and handwriting recognition) is detected by the touch-sensitive user interface and the palm rest is recognized. In addition, the touch pad detects when the following integrated buttons are pressed:
- "Back" button
- Background Audio button (enables operation of the audio source without leaving the current menu)
- Home and Favorites button (enables quick access to the base functions (navigation, radio, media, telephone and Internet, vehicle) and to the functions saved as "favorites")
Model 213 as of model year 2018 up to model year 2021 with code 446 (Touchpad only)
Model 213 as of model year 2018 up to model year 2021 with code 448 (Touchpad)
When changing from one menu entry to another one, the touchpad provides haptic feedback. This function can be activated and parameterized using the diagnosis tester.
Receiving signals
The touchpad receives signals over the following connections:
- LCP-LIN (LIN A3) (with code 446 (Touchpad only))
- Telematics CAN (CAN A)
LCP-LIN (with code 446 (Touchpad only))
The touchpad reads in the operation signals from the following components over the LCP-LIN:
- Upper control panel control unit (N72/1)
- Left lower control panel (N72/4)
- Right lower control panel (N72/5)
Telematics CAN
For example, the touchpad receives the following signals over the telematics CAN:
- Wake-up signal
- On-board electrical system status
- Terminal 15 status
- Engine running status
- Terminal 58d
- Control signals from head unit (A26/17)
Sending signals
The touchpad sends its own operation signals along with operation signals from the lower control panel and the control unit for the upper control panel over the telematics CAN to the head unit.
The touchpad sends the request for a status display of the functions operated by buttons on the lower control panel and the control unit for the upper control panel over the LCP-LIN to the lower control panel and the control unit for the upper control panel.
Model 213 as of model year 2018 up to model year 2021 with code 446 (Touchpad only)
Model 213 as of model year 2018 up to model year 2021 with code 448 (Touchpad)
All operations conducted on the touchpad are acoustically confirmed through the vehicle's speaker system.
Variants
Depending on equipment installed, the design and size of the touchpad may vary. The smaller variant with code 448 (Touchpad) is installed together with the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9). The larger variant with code 446 (Touchpad only) no longer includes the Audio/COMAND control panel.
