General
The windshield wiper and washer system of the rear window consists of a wiper arm with windshield wiper, a wiper motor and a spray nozzle.
It uses the washer fluid reservoir of the windshield washer system for washing. To do so, the windshield washer system pump is actuated in the opposite direction from (front) windshield washing.
The wiping frequency depends on the activation and varies between a wipe every 5 s, wiping synchronously with the front windshield wipers and continuous wiping.
The windshield washer system pump pumps the washer fluid through the spray nozzle on to the rear window. The windshield wipers wipe the water and partially dissolved dirt from the rear window.
Function requirement
- Circuit 15 ON
Function
Wipe rear window
Wiping can be activated manually using the wiper switch on the combination switch or automatically by engaging the reverse gear.
- Switch position 0
The windshield wiper system is switched off.
- Switch position 1
The windshield wiper system is switched on. Wiping is carried out once every 5 s.
- Switch position 0, reverse gear engaged and windshield wiper switch is in position 1 or 2
Wiping is carried out synchronously with the windshield wipers of the (front) windshield.
- Switch position 0, reverse gear engaged and windshield wiper switch is in position 3 or 4
Wiping is carried out continuously, but not synchronously with the windshield wipers of the (front) windshield.
Wiping activated manually using the wiper switch (switch position 1) is indicated to the driver with a symbol.
Wiping activated via the reverse gear is not displayed.
After completion of the wiping, the windshield wiper is moved to the parked position.
Wash rear window
Washing is also activated by pressing the wiper switch beyond switch position 0 or 1.
The system switches from intermittent to continuous wiping and actuates the windshield washer system pump for max. 15 s.
After washing is completed, another one or two full wipes are carried out. If the wiper switch is only pressed briefly, the windshield washer system actuates the windshield washer system pump once again briefly after the first wipe. The rear window is also cleaned with the movement of the windshield wiper in the starting position.
Wiper operation suppression
The wiper startup suppression function prevents people from being sprayed with water due to a wiping process initiated when they are getting into or out of the vehicle or opening the liftgate.
The wiper startup suppression function is active if the vehicle speed is below 3 km/h.
When a front door or the liftgate is opened, the windshield wiper remains in the park position despite a wipe request triggered manually or automatically.
Any wiping procedure that has already started is terminated.
An active interruption can be canceled by requesting the wipe or wash again.
If the driver's door and front passenger door are closed and a drive range is selected or the clutch is operated, the wiper startup supression function is deactivated.
