Overview

General 

Many functions can be used from the rear passenger compartment via the Rear Seat Entertainment system. It consists of two rear displays that are connected to the head unit via WiFi .

The rear displays are fastened to the rear side of the front seats. The display inclination can only be adjusted manually. The operation and the display of video signals take place on the rear display. The rear display transmits the acoustic signals via a wireless interface to Bluetooth® headphones. Alternatively, cabled headphones can be connected to the rear display at the side via the headphones connection.

To safeguard subnetwork operation, the rear displays are connected to the head unit via a CAN interface.

Bluetooth® headphones are not part of the Rear Seat

Entertainment System equipment, but can be ordered separately.

Use of the Rear Seat Entertainment System can be switched off at the head unit (child safety lock).

Overview of system components 

The Rear Seat Entertainment System consists of two rear displays, each with the following components:

• Touchscreen
• HDMI connection (HDMI Mini)
• USB port (type C)
• Connection for cabled headphones
• Wireless interfaces for:
  • Signal transmission to Bluetooth® headphones
  • WiFi communication with head unit

In addition, USB ports for charging mobile devices are available in the rear passenger compartment. This enables, e.g. Bluetooth® headphones to be charged.

Function overview 

The following functions can be operated via the Rear Seat Entertainment System, e.g.:

• Media sources

  In addition to the media sources connected to the Rear Seat Entertainment System, the media sources of the multimedia system can also be used. Different media can be used from each seat independently.

• Internet browser

  The Internet connection is set up via the telematics services communications module and made available by the multimedia system.

• Radio/TV

  The Rear Seat Entertainment System does not have its own radio/TV tuner, but it can access the radio and TV (depending on the equipment installed) of the multimedia system. It is not possible to receive different radio or TV stations at the same time.

• Sound

  In addition to volume and tone, it is also possible to select between audio playback via the speaker system or via headphones.

• Navigation

  The map shows the current vehicle position. The vehicle position is adopted by the head unit. The destination entry on the Rear Seat Entertainment System is forwarded to the head unit. Route guidance can be viewed on the rear displays. The map view can be selected independently on each of the displays. To keep the map material up to date, map updates can be carried out on the rear display.

• Telephony

  Telephony can generally be used from the rear passenger compartment. If a mobile phone is connected via the Rear Seat Entertainment System, then it is logged in to the head unit. On vehicles with telephony in the rear, the rear telephone receiver can be used to make a telephone call.

• Ambiance illumination
• Rear air conditioning
• Seats:
  • Seat adjustments
  • Seat climate control
  • Massage programs

Control possibilities 

The following control options are available for the Rear Seat Entertainment System:

• Touchscreen function of rear displays
• Remote control via tablet PC (depending on equipment)

By installing a Mercedes Benz app, the user's smartphone can also be used as a remote control for the Rear Seat Entertainment System.
