Vehicle view from the front
Location
The DISTRONIC controller unit is located in the middle behind the brand emblem in the radiator grille. The brand emblem shields the DISTRONIC controller unit against external effects (for example dirt, ice or insects)
Task
The DISTRONIC controller unit fulfills the following tasks:
- Power supply and actuation of the integral long range radar
- Evaluation of target data for the integral long range radar
- Control of the target evaluation (long range radar)
The control electronics integrated in the DISTRONIC controller unit actuates the long range radar and evaluates its target data. The DISTRONIC controller unit transmits the target data for the long range radar via the dynamics CAN (CAN H) to the radar sensors control unit (N62/1) (up to 31.5.11) or the video and radar sensor system control unit (N62/2) (as of 1.6.11).
Input and output signals
The following input signals from the DISTRONIC controller unit are received and evaluated and an output signal is issued via the dynamics CAN:
- Input signals
- Output signals
Input signals
- Radar request
- Diagnosis request
Output signals
- Target data from the radar
- Diagnostic data
Body
The DISTRONIC controller unit contains control electronics for actuation and evaluation of the long range radar.
Properties of long range radar:
- Detection range: s = 0 up to 200 m for a detection angle of ∠ = 18°
- Detection range: s = 0 up to 60 m for a detection angle of ∠= 60°
- Carrier frequency: 77 GHz according to the "Pulse Doppler Principle" for independent measurement of distance and speed
The DISTRONIC controller unit must be newly adjusted after exchange (e.g. after an accident repair) using the integrated "service adjustment mode".
