  Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses.
Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

WARNING Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte or due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries  due to thermal changes. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses. In the event of escaping battery electrolyte, battery vapors, battery mist, smoke or heat development, secure the area, leave it and alert the fire department. AS54.10-Z-0001-04A

INSPECT Check     
1 Check condition of on-board electrical system battery Not with active transport mode.

  Charging     
2 Expose charging terminal of front prefuse box (F32) by sliding the cover (1) With on-board electrical system battery installed.  
3.1 Connect charger to the on-board electrical system battery With on-board electrical system battery removed.  
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 00 81 00 Charger NOTES
Check for correct polarity of positive terminal on charger (3) and ground terminal on charger (4) to on-board electrical system battery.
Otherwise, there is a risk of short circuit and damage to on-board electrical system battery and charger.

3.2 Connect charger positive clamp (3) to charging terminal of front prefuse box (F32) and charger ground clamp (4) to ground terminal (2) With on-board electrical system battery installed.  
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 00 81 00 Charger NOTES
Check for correct polarity of positive terminal on charger (3) and ground terminal on charger (4) to on-board electrical system battery.
Otherwise, there is a risk of short circuit and damage to on-board electrical system battery and charger.
NOTES
Make sure that the vent hose and the stop plug of the on-board electrical system battery are installed correctly.
because escaping battery vapor can damage the vehicle paint.

4 Charge on-board electrical system battery IMPORTANT The battery charging period depends on the charge level of the on-board electrical system battery.
The on-board electrical system battery is sufficiently charged when the displayed charging current is < 5 A.
 
5 Switch off charger NOTES
The charger positive terminal (3) and charger ground terminal (4) may only be disconnected when the charger is switched off.
Otherwise, there is a risk of short circuit and damage to on-board electrical system battery and charger.
 
6.1 Disconnect charger from on-board electrical system battery With on-board electrical system battery removed.  
6.2 Disconnect charger positive clamp (3) from charging terminal of front prefuse box (F32) and charger ground clamp (4) from ground terminal (2) With on-board electrical system battery installed.  
INSPECT Check     
7 Check condition of on-board electrical system battery Not with active transport mode.
