48 V On-Board Electrical System, Basic Function - GF54.10-P-1015A

MODEL all (CAR)

with CODE B01 (48V technology)

General

The 48 V on-board electrical system supplies all 48 V consumer (consumers with high energy requirement) with electrical energy.

Depending on the vehicle version involved, the 48 V on-board electrical system can also supply the electrical energy for starting the combustion engine by means of the starter-alternator. When the combustion engine is running, the starter-alternator generally supplies the electrical energy for charging the 48 V on-board electrical system battery.

For vehicles without starter-alternator, a conventional 12 V alternator is installed here that supplies the electrical energy for charging the 48 V on-board electrical system battery. In this case, the 48 V on-board electrical system is supplied with electrical energy through the DC/DC converter from the 12 V on-board electrical system battery.

For vehicles with starter-alternator, the 48 V on-board electrical system supplies the 12 V on-board electrical system through the DC/DC converter with electrical energy taken from the 48 V on-board electrical system battery. No 12 V alternator is installed.

At engine OFF all 48 V consumers are supplied with electrical energy by the 48 V on-board electrical system battery.
