Risk of injury and burn injuries
Risk of injury rom flying component parts and loud noise, strong smoke and heat emissions in the event of uncontrol led ignition of pyrotechnical component parts. Risk of burn njuries if ignited pyrotechnical component parts that are still hot are touched.
Rules of conduct and safety precautions for handling pyrotechnical component parts
- Acquisition, transportation, storage, testing and assembly work on pyrotechnical component parts may only be performed or supervised by properly trained personnel.
- Before starting work on pyrotechnical component parts or work involving pyrotechnical component parts, it must be ensured that there is no power supply to the vehicle, and the vehicle must be secured against accidental restarting.
- For all work on and with pyrotechnical component parts, all applicable country-specific legal requirements must generally be observed. Please consult your supervisor about this.
- Pyrotechnical component parts must be protected against flying sparks and temperatures over 100°C or 212°F.
- Damaged or defective pyrotechnical component parts may not be repaired and must as a rule be replaced. Damaged or defective attachment or bolting points of pyrotechnical component parts must be properly repaired or replaced.
- Pyrotechnical component parts may never be processed or stressed using thermal, chemical or physical/manual means.
- No mechanical forces (e.g. hammer strokes) may be exerted in the vicinity of pyrotechnical component parts.
- Pyrotechnical component parts that have fallen from a height of more than 0.5 m must be replaced.
- After replacement, pyrotechnical component parts must be sent for scrapping or for correct and environmentally safe disposal in accordance with the applicable country-specific legal requirements.

IMPORTANT: Scrap only inert objects.
- Before starting work, check vehicle for installed pyrotechnical component parts using the vehicle documentation.
- Pyrotechnical component parts must be installed immediately after removal from storage or the original packaging.
- Pyrotechnical component parts must not be left lying around unattended.
- Place removed pyrotechnical component parts so that they cannot become a hazard. The deployment side of airbag units should face upwards. The pyrotechnical hood lifters must be lying on the side and on a flat surface. For all pyrotechnical objects, it is important that there is a sufficient safe distance from all other objects all the way around.
- Do not restore the vehicle's power supply until work has been completed. There must be no persons in the vehicle interior or within the operating range of a pyrotechnical component part.
- Only carry out approved and published system tests on pyrotechnical component parts and their sensor systems when they are installed and only using the approved vehicle diagnosis systems that are suitable for the respective models. Observe manufacturer's instructions.
- Do not allow the airbags and seat belt tensioners to come into contact with grease, oil or cleaning agents.
- Pyrotechnical component parts must not be transported when loose in the passenger compartment. The component parts must be stowed for transportation in the original replacement part packaging in the load compartment of the vehicle in a secure fashion so as to prevent them from sliding around.
First aid measures in case of burns
- Do not rub the skin areas affected; rinse with plenty of cold water and cover skin with sterile dressings.
- Consult a physician immediately.
