Overview
This document contains information on:
- Function of Internet access
- Internet connection via the telematics services control unit
- Internet connection via a mobile device
- Internet connection via the telephone control unit
- Multiple use of the mobile device
General
The user can use the Internet in the vehicle as follows:
- Free surfing via the multimedia system's display and control elements.
- Free surfing via the WiFi hotspot in vehicle.
- Internet radio/music streaming service "TIDAL"
Function requirement
- Vehicle stationary (for display on the multimedia system)
Function of Internet access
According to the requirements of the multimedia system and depending on the equipment installed, the multimedia system control controls the Internet connection.
Depending on equipment, one of the following devices establishes the Internet connection:
- Telematics services control unit
- Telephone control unit (connection to the vehicle via Bluetooth® and WLAN)
- Mobile device (e.g. smartphone).
Internet connection via the telematics services control unit
Additional function requirements:
- The Internet access service is activated.
- The vehicle owner is registered and authorized at the Service Center.
- No prioritized service (emergency call, MB-Info call, breakdown assistance) is active.
- Data volume purchased from mobile network provider (not available in all markets)
The telematics services control unit contains a permanently installed SIM card. With this, the telematics services control unit can establish an Internet connection to the mobile network provider via the emergency call antenna(s). The user can order a volume of data from the service provider. When the data volume limit is reached, any services which use the data volume are unavailable.
Via the Mercedes-Benz Customer Portal, the user can display and expand the available data volume.
Activation of a voice connection (e.g. emergency call or Concierge Service) may interrupt the Internet connection.
Internet connection via a mobile device
Additional function requirements:
- A suitable SIM card is inserted in the mobile device.
- The mobile phone network provider allows the mobile phone to be used for data services.
- The mobile phone network provider allows Secure Socket Layer encryption via the mobile phone network.
In Mercedes me markets, the Internet connection via a mobile device cannot be used.
Depending on the vehicle equipment installed, the mobile phone cradle control unit directs the antenna signal of the mobile phone via the vehicle's external antennas. Further information about this can be found under "Telephone, basic function", see reference table.
Internet connection via the telephone control unit
Additional function requirements:
- A suitable SIM card is inserted in the telephone control unit or a phone is connected via the Bluetooth® SAP profile.
- The mobile phone network provider allows the telephone control unit to be used for data services.
- The mobile phone network provider allows Secure Socket Layer encryption via the mobile phone network.
In Mercedes me markets, the Internet connection via the telephone control unit can only be used by devices in the WiFi hotspot.
There is a SIM card inside the telephone control unit. This enables the telephone control unit to establish an Internet connection via the vehicle's external antennas.
The Internet connection to the multimedia system control is established via WLAN. The Bluetooth® connection is only used for control signals.
Multiple use of the mobile device
In principle, the user can operate several functions at the same time on mobile phones that are suitable for Internet use. For example, he can make a phone call while an Internet connection exists. However, this depends on the quality of the respective network. If the network connection is too weak, the Internet connection can only transmit a limited amount of data during a phone call.
