1. Screw thrust ring (8.3) onto the spindle (8.1) with a reversible ratchet until the thrust ring (8.3) lies on the weld ring (10.2) of the ring package (arrow A).
2. Turn down the spindle (8.1) using a torque wrench until the required preload force has been reached on the ring package.
3. Lay digital vernier caliper (1), as shown, onto the sealing surface on the housing of the electrical machine (2), lay measuring rod for the digital vernier caliper (1) on the weld ring (10.2) and set digital depth gauge (1) to zero.
4. Remove digital vernier caliper (1).

5. Turn up the spindle (8.1) until the thrust ring (8.3) no longer touches the weld ring (10.2) (arrows A).
6. Measure the dimension between the sealing surfaces on the housing for the electrical machine (2) and retaining ring (10.1) using the digital vernier caliper (1), as shown.

   The determined dimension represents the ACTUAL dimension of the axial play on the stator. If the display on the digital vernier caliper (1) shows -0.5 mm, for example, that means that the axial play is 0.5 mm.

   Adjust axial play 

7. Set axial play by exchanging the retaining ring (10.1).

   Retaining rings (10.1) are available in thicknesses of 3.0, 3.4 and 3.8 mm.

8. Repeat checking procedure; correct axial play if necessary.
