Overview 

This document contains information on:

• USB media mode function
• Bluetooth® audio function

General 

Media mode enables the playback of video or audio files. The following media sources are available:

• USB port (Universal Serial Bus) in the front center console
• Bluetooth® streaming

The audio signals are output over the speaker system. Video signals are output via the media display. Media mode is operated via the multimedia system's display and control elements.

Playing back videos is only possible at a vehicle speed of less than 6 km/h.

USB media mode function 

For media mode via USB, audio/video data and control signals are transferred via the USB ports in the front center console.

The playback of video data is dependent on the equipment installed.

Media mode supports the following USB devices:

• USB storage media with FAT32, exFAT and NTFS file systems
• Audio player with Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)
• Apple iPod®/iPhone®

The playback of smartphone media can also take place via smartphone integration.

Media mode supports, for example, the following file formats:

• Audio formats:  MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC
• Video formats:  AVI, MPEG, DivX, MKV, MP4, M4V, WMV

Media mode supports USB data storage media up to 2 TB depending on the file system. Media mode supports video files up to Full HD (1920x1080). Media mode cannot  playback copy-protected audio and video files or files encrypted with DRM (Digital Rights Management).

When playing back audio files, the corresponding visual representation (cover art) is displayed on the media display if this is stored on the terminal.

Bluetooth® audio function 

For media mode via Bluetooth®, audio data and control signals are transferred via the Bluetooth antenna.

Preconditions for Bluetooth® Audio:

• The audio equipment supports A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth® audio profiles.
• The audio equipment is authorized and connected.

The AAC codec is used for optimum audio quality, provided that the audio equipment supports it.

Authorizing and connecting a Bluetooth® audio source occurs analogously to telephony (see telephone basic function).

The display of information for Bluetooth® audio depends on the respective device used. As of AVRCP 1.3, the multimedia system supports display of the track, album and artist in the media display or instrument cluster. In addition, the event log relays for how long the current track has been playing.
