	Remove/install
1	Extend or pull out adjustable steering column fully
2	Deactivate easy entry/exit feature	Model 171 with engine 271 with code 275 (Memory package) Model 172 with engine 271, 274 with code 275 (Memory package)

		Model 172 with engine 271, 274 with code 275 (Memory package) If the vehicle is equipped with the easy entry and exit feature, this will have to be deactivated first. Otherwise, the driver's seat and the steering wheel move to a different position, when the driver door is opened or closed. If the holding device is installed, the upper frame is damaged when the steering wheel is adjusted.	AR54.30-P-1000-02W
3	Turn steering wheel to central position (front wheels in straight ahead position) and secure with the retaining device	The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling (25) has been detached. Otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

4	Remove lower engine compartment paneling	Model 171 with engine 271	AR61.20-P-1105V

5	Unscrew bolt (25a)	Bolt, steering coupling to steering shaft	*BA46.10-P-1001-01E
6	Push lower steering shaft (80a) upwards out of the steering coupling (25)		AR46.20-P-0600-01V
		Do not use force (hammer blows, excessive leverage). Otherwise, the lower steering shaft (80a) may be damaged as it is sensitive to force applied from the side. Turn rack-and-pinion steering to center position. Push lower steering shaft (80a) all the way into steering coupling (25), observing the pins of the steering coupling (25) and groove of the lower steering shaft (80a).
7	Detach the locking plate (25f) from the steering coupling (25), while doing so use a suitable tool to lift up the retaining tab	The locking plate (25f) is not available as a replacement part. Insert new, self-locking nut into existing locking plate (25f). Push on the locking plate (25f) until the retaining tab latches into the steering coupling (25).
8	Pull boot (3) out of firewall and remove from lower steering shaft (80a)	Grease and insert boot (3) onto steering column tube in sealing surface area. Ensure that the continuous groove guarantees correct sealing.

9	Install in the reverse order
