Remove/install front bumper - AR88.20-P-2000W

MODEL 172.4 

Shown on vehicles with code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic)

NOTES General information on the impact absorber   AH88.20-P-1000-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Disconnect ground line at the on-board electrical system battery Model 172.4
with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))
 
AR54.10-P-0003W
2.1 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling at front Model 172.4 with engine 152, 271, 274, 276  
AR61.20-P-1105W
2.2 Remove bottom section of soundproofing at front Model 172.4 with engine 651  
AR94.30-P-5300W
3 Disconnect Electrical connection (9) If installed.
IMPORTANT Number of electrical connectors (9)
depending on vehicle equipment.
 
4 Remove expansion rivets (2, 4) from fender liner (3, 5) and expansion rivet (6) on left and right on bumper (1) SPECIAL TOOL Clip remover Fig 5
5 Disconnect electrical connector on frame wiring harness and front bumper (X2638)    
6 Detach fender liner (3, 5) only until bolts (7, 8) are accessible SPECIAL TOOL Mounting wedge Figure
7 Remove bolts (7, 8)    
8 Loosen bumper (1) from fenders (10) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Guide bumper (1) into side bracket (12). Guide, guide tabs (11) on bumper (1) into fender (10).  
9 Unscrew bolts (13) from bumper (1)    
10 Carefully loosen catch hooks (14) in sequence from mounting rail (15) starting at one side with screwdriver IMPORTANT Guide screwdriver from the engine side into recesses (arrows) on mounting rail (15). Carefully pull bumper (1) toward front when detaching catch hooks (14).  
11 Remove bumper (1) toward front with aid of helper INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Screw in bolts (13) up to contact surface only, as the gap dimensions must be checked and adjusted, if necessary, after the bumper (1) has been installed.  
INSPECT Check     
12 Check front bumper pedestrian protection sensor for any kind of damage (cracks, holes, kins, etc.) Model 172.4
with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))
 
NOTES Notes on pedestrian protection sensor   AH91.60-P-0001-01A
    If damage is visible.

Replace pedestrian protection sensor
 
      AR91.60-P-0950RK
13 Disassemble front bumper (1) When replacing bumper (1). AR88.20-P-2050W 
14 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
15 Check gap dimensions on bumper, adjust if necessary   AR60.00-P-0700-01V
