1 Switch off easy entry/exit NOTES
Depending on the version, the steering wheel and possibly also the driver seat move to a different position when, for example, the driver door is opened or closed.
Damage to the upper frame can occur when the retainer (055) is installed.
IMPORTANT The system is switched off via the buttons on the steering wheel in the "Comfort" menu of the multifunction display.
 
2 Swivel the sun visor to one side and fix the steering wheel in the center position using the retainer (055) NOTES
Position holding device (055) carefully.
In order to prevent damage to the steering wheel and headliner.

3 Detach lower engine compartment paneling MODEL 230.4
with CODE P99 (Special model "AMG Black Series")

    MODEL 231 AR61.20-P-1105RK
4 Check center position of steering gear (arrow) and steering wheel IMPORTANT The steering gear is at the center position when the marking on the cap is aligned with the marking on the control valve housing.  
    Adjust steering wheel by max. one tooth if necessary:

Remove/install steering wheel
MODEL 230 (except 230.479) up to 1/28/08
MODEL 230 as of 1/29/08

without CODE 809 (Model year 2009)

5 Insert wheel spreader (030) at the inside of the wheel at the front in the direction of travel IMPORTANT The elastic mounts of the transverse control arms and steering linkage result in a correspondingly large toe value which reduces to the correct dimension in the driving condition.  
6 Counterhold tie rod (10) at the hexagon and loosen jam nut (10f)    
7 Rotate the tie rods (10) to adjust the toe angle. MODEL 230
without CODE P99 (Special model "AMG Black Series")

8 Tighten jam nut (10f) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Lock nut, tie rod to inner tie rod *BA46.40-P-1002-01E 
9 Remove retainer (055) SPECIAL TOOL Retainer device Fig 6
10 Remove wheel spreader (030)    
11 Check bellows for twisting and align if necessary
