	Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge		AH54.00-P-0001-01A
	Remove/install
1	Perform initial startup of steering column tube module (1)
	Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory		AD00.00-P-2000-04A
2	Remove steering wheel		AR46.10-P-0100EW
3	Detach cover (3) from steering column tube module (1)	To do so, press the frame of the cover (3) off the steering column tube module (1). Long wedge	Fig 2
4	Detach steering column tube module (1) from steering column tube (5)	Do not operate red safety catches in steering column tube module control unit (N80). The steering wheel clock spring contact (A45) will otherwise be damaged irreparably. The steering column tube module (1) contains the steering wheel clock spring contact (A45), steering wheel angle sensor (N49), steering column tube module control unit (N80) and combination switch (S4). It is one component and can only be removed or replaced complete. When the steering column tube module (1) is in the correct installation position, the assembly indicator (2) is retracted. When installing a new steering column tube module (1), the transportation lock (4) must be broken off following installation.
5	Disconnect electrical connector (6) from steering column tube module control unit (N80)	The locking clip of the electrical connector (6) is destroyed and has to be replaced. Secure the electrical connector (6) using a new locking clip.	AR54.25-P-2802-02CW
6	Install in the reverse order
7	Initialize DISTRONIC electric controller unit (A89)	MODEL 231 with CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS) Only when replacing steering column tube module (1).
	Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory		AD00.00-P-2000-04A
