Remove/install rear axle spring - AR32.20-P-0232LFS

DANGER Risk of death  caused b vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves. AS00.00-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Release pressure in suspension strut (4) with diagnostic system    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
2 Detach rear complete wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050HA
3 Remove cover (1) from spring control arm (2)    
4 Tension rear axle spring (3)   AR32.20-P-0202-06LFS
    SPECIAL TOOL Tensioning device Fig 3
    SPECIAL TOOL Clamping plates Fig 2
5 Detach suspension strut (4) from spring control arm (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, suspension strut at rear to spring control arm *BA32.25-P-1005-04O 
6 Detach spring control arm (2) from wheel carrier (5) IMPORTANT The rear axle spring (3) can only be removed together with the spring control arm (2).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, spring control arm to wheel carrier
*BA35.20-P-1002-01H 
7 Detach spring control arm (2) from rear axle carrier and tilt downward TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, spring control arm to rear axle carrier *BA35.20-P-1001-01H 
8 Pull screw/bolt (6) out of wheel carrier (5) and remove spring control arm (2) with rear axle spring (3) IMPORTANT Clean the spring control arm (2) at the contact area.  
9 Release tension on rear axle spring (3) and remove from spring control arm (2)   AR32.20-P-0202-06LFS

10 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
11 Check rear axle spring (3) for paint damage When reinstalling the rear axle spring (3).
NOTES
Only repair paint damage using a black touchup paint pen.
Otherwise, it could lead to confusion with the color marking of the rear axle springs (3).
 
12 Check vehicle level at rear axle, correct if necessary   AR40.20-P-0301LF
13 Check headlamp adjustment and correct if necessary
