As part of ongoing technical development, the coolant was changed in the models listed above in April 2014.

The previous anti-corrosion agent/antifreeze G48® (green/blue color) has been replaced in series production with anti-corrosion agent/antifreeze G40® (violet color).

For the models filled ex factory with G48® (grey-blue color) up to series-production changeover, the use of antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor G48® is forbidden from 17.12.2022 in all service centers. The anti-corrosion agent/antifreeze G40® can be used here as a replacement. The cooling circuits of all vehicles with manufacturing date up to and including April 2014 may in the future be refilled without restriction with antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor G40®.

Each anticorrosion/antifreeze agent can be determined by the color:

• Violet color: Antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor G40® (see operating fluid specification BB00.40-P-0325-06A)
• Violet color: Premixed coolant G40® (see operating fluid specification BB00.40-P-0326-06A)
• Green-blue color: Antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor G48® (see operating fluid specification BB00.40-P-0325-00A)

Questions and answers 

• Can our service partners fill the antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor G48® in customer vehicles in their workshops after 17.12.2022 as part of a new customer order to use up the residual stock?

  Yes, service centers may use up any residual quantities. For over-the-counter sales in the EU, always ensure that only commercial customers receive the product and that the necessary safety precautions are permanently guaranteed.

• The EU Regulation, however, does permit professional use (draining/filling) by the service centers or sales to independent workshops/commercial re-users. Why is this prohibited in this document?

  This is prohibited because we cannot ensure that they will properly and professionally used. To protect our customers, employees and the environment, we have removed the product from the product range.

• Is it OK to mix anti-corrosion agent/antifreeze G48® with anti-corrosion agent/antifreeze G40®?

  There are no technical limitations on mixability, i.e. G40® can be added in any quantity to cooling circuits filled with G48® without any need to replace the coolant, and without using any special procedure.

• Which color is produced when anti-corrosion agent/antifreeze G48® is mixed with anti-corrosion agent/antifreeze G40®?

  Depending on the mixing ratio between both products, the blue or mauve proportion will be increased.

If the mixture results in a rust-brown discoloration, this is not a quality defect.
