DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

INSPECT Check     
1 Check whether vehicle is affected by measure. Affected vehicles: Check brake caliper supports of front axle, replace if necessary (code: VS2BREMTRA)
IMPORTANT For authorized Mercedes-Benz service partners, only the entry in the "Extended VEGA Application" (EVA) system, in the "Current" tab is decisive. An additional test of the affected vehicles in the workshop information system (WIS) or vehicle list is thereby not necessary.

REMOVING Remove     
2 Raise vehicle.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-S-1000E
3 Remove wheel and tire assemblies (left and right) of front axle.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR40.10-S-1100E
CLEAN Clean     
4 Clean brake caliper supports (1) at left and right in area of cast batch marking (2). IMPORTANT Depending on the design of the brake system, the cast batch marking (2) may be located at either the top or bottom on the brake caliper support (1).
Assembly cleaner
*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
INSPECT Check     
5 Check the cast batch marking (2) on the brake caliper support (1). IMPORTANT Depending on the design of the brake system, the cast batch marking (2) may be located at either the top or bottom on the brake caliper support (1).
IMPORTANT Perform the test with a flashlight and inspection mirror (3) (as shown).
Replace all brake caliper supports (1) with cast batch marking (2) "1A13". 
IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Inspection mirror
If the left or right brake caliper support (1) does not have the cast batch marking (2) "1A13",
↓
the respective brake caliper support (1) is not affected by the measure.
IMPORTANT continue with operation step 16.
If the left or right brake caliper support (1) has the cast batch marking (2) "1A13",
↓
the respective brake caliper support (1) is affected by the measure and must be replaced.
IMPORTANT Continue with operation step 6.
 
REMOVING Remove     
6 Remove cap of brake fluid reservoir.    
7 Remove respective brake caliper (5) and hang to one side.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   NOTES Use a cable tie to fix respective brake caliper (5) in place at suitable position. Do not apply any tensile force to the brake hose of the brake caliper (5).
Otherwise the brake hose may be damaged.
IMPORTANTDo not release brake hose. The brake hose remains connected to the brake caliper (5). 
IMPORTANT The screws (6) and the cover caps are replaced.
Dispose of removed component parts properly.
Observe the applicable legal requirements and specifications of the relevant country.

8 Remove brake pads from brake caliper support (1). IMPORTANT Brake pads are reused.  
9 Remove sliding plates (7) from brake caliper support (1). IMPORTANT Sliding plates (7) are reused.  
10 Remove respective brake caliper support (1). IMPORTANT For this purpose, remove bolts (4).
IMPORTANT The removed brake caliper support (1) and the screws (4) are no longer required.
Dispose of removed component parts properly.
Observe the applicable legal requirements and specifications of the relevant country.
 
CLEAN Clean     
11 Clean respective working areas and component parts. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Brake caliper brush Fig 1
INSTALLING Install     
12 Install respective new brake caliper support (1) and screw in new screws (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, front floating caliper carrier to steering knuckle *BA42.10-Z-1002-03KOB 
13 Install previously removed sliding plates (7) into new brake caliper support (1).    
14 Install previously removed brake pads. NOTES Do not apply any brake paste or assembly grease.
This can otherwise cause the brake system to malfunction.
 
15 Install respective brake caliper (5).   AR42.10-S-0070E
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   NOTES Coat inside of screw cover caps (6) with assembly grease included in parts kit for brake caliper support (1).
Otherwise, the screws (6) may suffer from corrosion.
IMPORTANT Use new screws (6) and new cover caps from parts kit for brake caliper support (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, floating brake caliper to floating caliper carrier

16 Mount wheel and tire assemblies (left and right) of front axle.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR40.10-S-1100E
17 Lower vehicle.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-S-1000E
18 Operate brake pedal. Only if the vehicle is affected by the measure.
IMPORTANT Only correct the brake fluid level after actuating the brake pedal several times. The brake pads must make contact with the brake disk. Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
 
INSPECT Check     
19 Check brake fluid level. Only if the vehicle is affected by the measure.  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If the brake fluid level is below the "Min."
marking,
↓
correct brake fluid level.
IMPORTANT In the event of a brake fluid level which has dropped due to brake lining wear only refill with brake fluid if the brake fluid level is below the "Min." mark.
Do not invoice corrections to the brake fluid level as part of this service measure.

20 Install cap of brake fluid reservoir. Only if the vehicle is affected by the measure.  
21 Perform brake test on test stand. Only if the vehicle is affected by the measure.
