The sliding sunroof and panoramic sliding sunroof are described together in the following text. Deviations between the systems will be pointed out separately.
General
The sliding sunroof provides the possibility to ventilate the vehicle interior in a pleasant way and without causing a draft.
The glass design creates a bright and friendly atmosphere in the vehicle interior at the same time.
The sliding sunroof is driven by an electric motor and can be opened and closed in the slide position or lifted and lowered in the tilt position.
Vehicles with sliding sunroof
The sliding sunroof is lowered in the slide position and moved between the headliner and the roof paneling.
An element of the headliner that can be moved by hand provides a visual cover and sun protection.
Vehicles with panoramic sliding sunroof
The panoramic sliding sunroof is raised into the slide position and moved over the rear glass section.
An electrically driven roller sunblind provides a visual cover and sun protection.
Function requirements
- Panoramic sliding sunroof roller sunblind fully open (vehicles with panoramic sliding sunroof)
- Circuit 15 R ON or control unit power-down active (manual operation)
Control unit power-down:
After circuit 15 R OFF, the sliding sunroof can still be operated for another 5 min via the roof system switch.
The sliding sunroof must be normalized for all automatic functions. The normalization ensures that the system can accurately determine the position of the sliding sunroof.
The position of the sliding sunroof cannot be determined in denormalized condition. The function is then limited to incremental manual opening and closing.
Function
Open/close sliding sunroof
The sliding sunroof can be opened, closed, or moved to the tilt position and lowered again via different controls or functions both manually and automatically in a continuous manner.
| Control element/function | Action | Additional information |
|---|---|---|
| Roof system switch (actuated up to pressure point and held) | Actuation for the duration of operation (max. 20 s) | - |
| Roof system switch (actuated beyond the pressure point and released) | Actuation until the end or memory position is reached | - |
| Web-based via browser (e.g. tablet/PC/smartphone) (Vehicles with Remote Online) | Actuation as per the application | The status of the sliding sunroof can be called up at any time. |
| On the vehicle side, this telematics service is implemented via a mobile radio connection to the Service Center. | ||
| Convenience feature | Joint actuation with the side windows | - |
| Rain closing function | Actuation of open sliding sunroof to prevent the ingress of rain. | - |
| Speed-dependent tilt adjustment (Vehicles with panoramic sliding sunroof) | Actuation of open sliding sunroof to reduce wind noises in the vehicle interior. | - |
| PRE-SAFE® (Vehicles with PRE-SAFE® system) | Actuation of open sliding sunroof in potentially hazardous situations for protection of vehicle occupants | - |
If the roof system switch is actuated for more than 60 s, the actuation is aborted. The continuous request is assessed as a defect of the roof system switch. A new actuation (triggered via the roof system switch) can only be performed again after detecting that the roof system switch is in the rest position.
All automatic functions can be canceled by submitting a new or different request.
The normalized sliding sunroof has an automatic reversing function. This function provides protection against injury or damage caused by pinching. As soon as pinching is detected, the sliding sunroof is either only paused (during opening) or paused and then opened again (during closing).
In denormalized status, the blockage detection protects only the component parts of the sliding sunroof against overload.
If the sliding sunroof is opened in slide position, a wind deflector positions itself automatically at a specified angle. Wind noises are reduced as a result and the draft in the vehicle interior is changed.
Memory function
After manual adjustment is completed, the system saves the position of the sliding sunroof. When the sliding sunroof is opened automatically, it moves into the position that was saved most recently. The saved position is overwritten by every manual adjustment.
Speed-dependent tilt adjustment (vehicles with panoramic sliding sunroof)
If the panoramic sliding sunroof is fully open in the tilt position, it lowers automatically at higher speeds. Depending on the driven speed, the panoramic sliding sunroof is lowered in two stages. The wind noises in the vehicle interior are thus reduced. Where a defined speed threshold is undershot, the panoramic sliding sunroof raises again automatically into the tilt position.
