  Risk of death  when touching components on vehicles with high-voltage on-board electrical system Do not touch damaged or defective components and open lines of the high-voltage on-board electrical system. Persons who wear electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must not  carry out any work on high-voltage on-board electrical systems. AS54.00-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Perform enable for the high voltage on-board electrical system   AR54.10-P-1150GQA
2 Detach ground line from on-board electrical system battery Engine 276.8 in model 166.063 AR54.10-P-0003GZ
3 Remove front right side underfloor paneling   AR61.30-P-1001GQ
4 Remove right heat shield over power electronics (1) in transmission tunnel    
5 Drain coolant from low-temperature circuit   AR09.41-P-6834MLJ
6 Disconnect electrical connector (8) from power electronics (1)   AR08.00-P-0101-01LFH 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, high-voltage connector to high-voltage distributor *BA54.10-P-1001-03E 
7 Disconnect electrical connector (12) from power electronics (1)    
8 Disconnect electrical connector (13) from power electronics (1)    
9 Use protective covers to protect open electrical connectors (12, 13, 8) against moisture SPECIAL TOOL Set of protective covers Fig 3

10 Remove screw/bolts (9) and remove high-voltage distributor (2) from power electronics (1)   AR54.10-P-1400GQA
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, high-voltage distributor to power electronics *BA54.10-P-1003-03E 
11 Clamp off coolant hoses (3) near to the power electronics (1) NOTES
The coolant hoses (3) must be clamped off as near as possible to the power electronics (1). In order to keep the escaping coolant as low as possible.
 
12 Loosen clamps (4) and remove coolant hoses (3) from power electronics (1) IMPORTANT Catch coolant with suitable container.  
13 Seal coolant connections on power electronics (1) with stop plugs SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 4
14 Disconnect electrical connection (10) from power electronics (1)    
15 Close off electrical connection (10) with protective cover at the power electronics (1) SPECIAL TOOL

16 Remove vent line (5) from power electronics (1)    
17 Remove screw/bolt (7) and unscrew potential equalization electrical line (11) from power electronics (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, potential equalization to power electronics *BA08.20-P-1004-01H 
18 Close off open plug contacts between the power electronics (1) and high-voltage distributor with protective covers NOTES
Protect power electronics (1) against moisture and dirt particles.
Otherwise the high voltage on-board electrical system may suffer contact problems and be damaged.

19 Remove plastic clip (14) from power electronics bracket (1) to body    
20 Remove screw/bolts (6) IMPORTANT Secure power electronics (1) with universal telescopic lifter against falling down.

21 Remove power electronics (1) INSTALLATION NOTES : Ensure absolute cleanliness of plug contacts and seals.
Water entry or isolation faults can occur otherwise.
 
22 Reuse bracket (15, 16, 17) for power electronics (1) When replacing the power electronics (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, power electronics to bracket

23 Install in the reverse order    
  Initial startup     
24 Connect diagnostic system When replacing the power electronics (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
25 Commission power electronics control unit (1) with diagnostic system When replacing the power electronics (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   IMPORTANT The work procedure for the commissioning can be found in the following control unit:

In the control units initial menu, select the menu item "Initial startup" under "Adaptations" and process the complete procedure.

26 Close off diagnostic system When replacing the power electronics (1).
