Function requirements, engine sound, general 

• Engine running

The engine sound noises are always output via the speakers in the vehicle, regardless of whether the radio or the COMAND controller unit is switched on or off.

Engine sound, general 

The engine sound control unit simulates engine noises in the vehicle interior via the speaker system in order to represent a more powerful engine.

The engine sound function is divided into the following subfunctions:

• Engine sound function (except CODE 810 (Sound system) and except CODE 811 (Advanced sound system)) 
• Engine sound function (with CODE 810 (Sound system) or with CODE 811 (Advanced sound system)) 

Engine sound function (except CODE 810 (Sound system) and except CODE 811 (Advanced sound system)) 

The engine sound control unit receives the following signals:

• Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load or vehicle speed) via the drive train CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit
• Analog signals via direct line from radio or COMAND controller unit

The engine sound control unit transmits the following signals:

• Synthesized sound signals over direct lines to:

• Left front door speaker
• Right front door speaker
• Left rear door speaker
• Right rear door speaker

Engine sound function (with CODE 810 (Sound system) or with CODE 811 (Advanced sound system)) 

The engine sound control unit receives the following signals:

• Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load or vehicle speed) via the drive train CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit

The engine sound control unit transmits the following signals:

• Synthesized sound signals over 4 symmetric lines to the sound system amplifier control unit

The sound system amplifier control unit forwards the synthesized sound signals to the following speakers:

• Rear woofer
• Left front door woofer
• Right front door woofer
• Left rear door speaker
• Right rear door speaker

The engine sound control unit is a MOST subscriber.
