For vehicles with code P31 (AMG Sport Package Exterior) the radar sensors are mounted displaced slightly upwards.

Location 

Front:

The front bumper radar sensors are inserted into the inner side at the left and right respectively into the front bumper.

Rear:

The sensors of the left outer rear bumper radar sensor, right outer rear bumper radar sensor, integrated left outer rear bumper radar sensor and integrated right outer rear bumper radar sensor are inserted from the inside into the rear bumper on the corresponding side. The center rear bumper radar sensor is inserted centrally on the inside into the rear bumper.

Task 

The following radar sensors (short range sensors) recognize objects (e.g. vehicles) in the short range area up to s = 30 m for a maximum detection angle of ∠ = 130°:

The center rear bumper radar sensor recognizes objects (vehicles in rear) up to s = 80 m (mid-range area) for a maximum detection angle of ∠ = 18°.

The radar sensors are ultra wideband radar sensors with the following properties:

IMPORTANT The coding (differentiation) for the individual radar sensors takes place by means of appropriate assignment with circuit 31 on pin 5 and 6. The high band width of the radar sensors allows a very precise position statement to be made and optimizes separation of objects lying close to each other.

Center rear bumper radar sensor:

The center rear bumper radar sensor operates based on the pulse Doppler principle with the following properties:

The sensors of the integrated right outer rear bumper radar sensor and integrated left outer rear bumper radar sensor operate based on the master/slave principle. The master or slave function can be determined via the connector coding. The master function is defined for the integrated right rear bumper radar sensor. That means that the integrated left rear bumper radar sensor sends information via chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) to the integrated right rear bumper radar sensor, which then evaluates the corresponding information from the two sensors and sends corresponding requests or data via chassis CAN 1 to the corresponding control units.

The left front bumper radar sensor, right front bumper radar sensor, left outer rear bumper radar sensor, right outer rear bumper radar sensor and center rear bumper radar sensor are actuated and evaluated by the radar sensors control unit (N62/1). The signal transmission of the radar sensors to the radar sensors control unit is via the following CAN connections:
