  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Release parking brake    
2 Detach ground line from battery   AR54.10-P-0003GZ

3 Remove relevant section of the underfloor paneling   AR61.30-P-1001GQ
4 Remove rear propeller shaft at output flange to rear axle from transfer case, place to one side and fix in place Tightening procedure for rear propeller shaft to transfer case AR41.10-P-0050-17GZ
    IMPORTANT Mark the position of the rear propeller shaft on the output flange.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe the tightening procedure for the rear propeller shaft.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking screw/bolt of propeller shaft at transfer case/adapter housing (to rear axle)

5 Remove front propeller shaft at output flange to front axle from transfer case, place to one side and fix in place Transmission 722.9 in model 166 (except 166.006/058)

IMPORTANT Mark the position of the front propeller shaft on the output flange.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe tightening procedure for front propeller shaft.

7 Open retaining clips (A) of vent hose (2) on transmission housing NOTES
Do not cause irreparable damage to the retaining clips (A).
Correct routing of the vent hose (2) can otherwise no longer be guaranteed.
IMPORTANT Lower the drivetrain only far enough to allow the retaining clips (A) on the vent hose (2) to be accessed.
 
8 Disconnect electrical connector (3a) from intelligent servo module ISM (5)    
9 Remove screws/bolts (4) from intelligent servo module ISM (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Standard bolt/hexagon-spacer bolt, shift module (ISM) to transmission housing *BA27.40-P-1021-01A 
10 Remove intelligent servo module ISM (5) toward rear    
11 Remove intelligent servo module ISM (5) with vent hose (2) NOTES
If the removed intelligent servo module ISM (5) is to be reused, do not detach the vent hose. A leaky connecting point can allow water to enter.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The position of the range selector shaft (3) and intelligent servo module ISM (5) must match.
 
12.1 Turn range selector shaft (3) of transmission clockwise up to end stop at P-Parking position When reusing removed intelligent servo module ISM (5)
IMPORTANT The intelligent servo module ISM (5) is at the P-Parking position.

IMPORTANT The intelligent servo module ISM (5) is at the D-Drive position.

13 Detach vent hose (2) IMPORTANT When the intelligent servo module ISM (5) is replaced, the vent hose (2) must be replaced.  
14 Install in the reverse order    
15.1 Read out fault memory using the diagnostic system and delete if necessary When reusing removed intelligent servo module ISM (5)  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
15.2 Perform initial startup of intelligent servo module ISM (5) using diagnostic system After replacing intelligent servo module ISM (5)
