REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Vent pressure in AIRMATIC system using vehicle diagnosis system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
2 Remove front wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
3 Disconnect electrical connectors (1) at suspension strut (2). IMPORTANT The electrical connectors (1) can, depending on the vehicle model and equipment be located as shown in the lower area of the suspension strut (2) or at the top near the pressure line connection (11).  
4.1 Remove holder (3) at suspension strut (2) and place to one side with connected lines. Model 205

4.2 Remove holder (3) from spring link (5) and place to one side with connected lines. Model 205

5 Unhook brake hose (4) from holders at suspension strut (2).    
6 Unscrew nut (15) and remove vibration damper (16). Model 213

If installed.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Vibration damper to threaded pin *BA32.25-P-1004-04P 
7 Remove suspension strut (2) at spring link (5). NOTESInstallation:

Bolt (6) must be inserted from the rear towards the front.
Otherwise the brake or the rim may be damaged.
IMPORTANT Model 213

Installation:  The screw (6) must be replaced by a threaded pin (17).
The threaded pin (17) must be inserted from front to rear.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, suspension strut to spring control arm *BA32.25-P-1002-04P 
8 Secure steering knuckle (7) against folding down.    
9 Unscrew nut of steering knuckle (7) on upper transverse control arm (8). NOTES
Counterhold the ball head and do not use an impact wrench/driver.
Otherwise, the ball head or steering knuckle (7) will be damaged.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, steering knuckle to transverse control arm *BA33.20-P-1006-01U 
10 Remove upper transverse control arm (8) from steering knuckle (7).    
11 Remove cover (9). When removing right suspension strut (2).  
12 Open service flap (10). Model 205
with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
When removing the left suspension strut (2).
 
13 Remove wiper arms. Model 205
with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
If the removed service flap (10) does not provide access to the nuts (12). When removing the left suspension strut (2).

14 Remove cover under wiper arms. Model 205

If the removed service flap (10) does not provide access to the nuts (12). When removing the left suspension strut (2).
 
15 Remove left rear top cover in engine compartment. Model 213

When removing the left suspension strut (2).
 
16 Remove pressure line connection (11) at suspension strut (2). INSTALLATION NOTES :
The thread on the compressed air line connection (11) may not be damaged.
Otherwise, leaks will occur.

    If thread is damaged,

Repair compressed air line connection (11).

17 Seal pressure line connection (11) and opening at suspension strut (2) with suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
18 Remove nuts (12). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, strut to body *BA32.25-P-1001-04P 
19 Remove suspension strut (2) downwards. NOTES
Carefully remove suspension strut (2).
Otherwise the suspension strut joint can be damaged by the spring control arm (5).
NOTES
When extending suspension strut (2), do not tension the brake hose (4).
Otherwise the brake hose (4) may be damaged.
 
INSPECT Check     
20 Check condition of suspension strut joint at spring link (5). If damage or wear is present,

replace spring link (5).
 
      AR33.15-P-0170LW
21 Check condition of suspension strut (2). In the event of a problem,

Replace suspension strut (2).
 
22 Measure length of new suspension strut (2) and compare dimension with value in leaflet. When replacing suspension strut (2).
In the event of a problem,

Do not use suspension strut (2) and order a suitable suspension strut (2).
 
23 Modify line bracket at suspension strut (2). When replacing suspension strut (2).  
    SPECIAL TOOL Pliers Fig 1
24 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
25 Read out and delete fault memory using vehicle diagnosis system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
26 Check AIRMATIC in area of suspension strut (2) for leak tightness.   AR32.22-P-8100LW 
27 Check headlamp adjustment. When replacing the suspension strut (2) or the spring control arm (5).
