  Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid.
Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid
Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Open service flap above expansion reservoir for brake fluid    
2 Clean area around cap on expansion reservoir for brake fluid Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.  
4 Remove front wheels   AR40.10-P-1102A
5 Create access to electric line of right front brakepad wear sensor and disconnect electrical connector IMPORTANT Pay attention to the routing of the electric line of the right front brakepad wear sensor.  
6 Remove bolt (6) and take off support (7)    
7 Use punch to knock out pin (5) and remove retaining spring (8) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Pound in pins (5) up to end stops.
Check retaining spring (8) is correctly seated.
 
8 Press back brake pistons slightly using pusher tool IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Attach pusher tool to the elevations of the brake linings (3).

9 Remove brakepads (3) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only brakepads (3) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed, and only as complete sets.
Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the brake linings (3) and brake calipers (1).
 
INSPECT Check     
10 Check pins (5), support (7) and retaining spring (8) for damage and condition If a problem arises

Replace the pins (5) or support (7) or retaining spring (8).
 
11 Check brake linings (3) for wear and condition

IMPORTANT Replace brakepads (3) as a complete set only.

12 Check brake disk for wear and condition

Replace brake disks.

    IMPORTANT Replace brake disks as a complete set only  
13 Check brake caliper (1) and dust boots of brake piston for leak tightness and damage If a problem arises

Replace brake caliper (1).

14 Press back brake pistons using pusher tool IMPORTANT Secure remaining brake pistons using two SPECIAL TOOL wedges against slipping out.

    With sluggish brake pistons

Replace brake caliper (1).

CLEAN Clean     
15 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (3) on brake caliper (1) and brake piston NOTES Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
The brake caliper (1) or the dust boots of the brake pistons can otherwise be damaged.
Assembly cleaner
*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
16 Pull front right brakepad wear sensor out of backing plate of brakepad (3) When replacing the brakepads (3) or replacing the right front brake wear sensor
IMPORTANT Observe installation position of front right brakepad wear sensor.
 
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Operate the brake pedal several times until brake linings (3) contact the brake disks IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
19 Check/correct brake fluid level in expansion reservoir

20 Carry out brake test on the test stand
