Location 

The parking system control unit is located under the rear bench seat on the left side in the direction of travel.

Task 

The parking system control unit is responsible for the following tasks:

• Reading in of sensors 
• Evaluation of input factors 
• Controlling functions 
• Actuation of components 

Reading in of sensors 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) 

Direct line 

The signals from the following components are read via direct lines:

• Left front outer parking system distance sensor (B8/1)
• Left front center parking system distance sensor (B8/2)
• Left front inner parking system distance sensor (B8/3)
• Right front inner parking system distance sensor (B8/4)
• Right front center parking system distance sensor (B8/5)
• Right front outer parking system distance sensor (B8/6)
• Outer right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/7)
• Inner right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/8)
• Inner left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/9)
• Outer left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/10)

Chassis CAN 2 

The following signals, among others, are read in via chassis CAN 2:

• Vehicle speed, transmitted by instrument cluster (A1)
• Currently engaged gear range, sent by fully integrated transmission control unit (Y3/8n4)
• Data of rain/light sensor (B38/2), sent by SAM control unit (N10)
• Status of parking system button (N72/1s8), transmitted by SAM control unit
• Status of parking brake, transmitted by electric parking brake control unit (N128)
• Wheel speeds and wheel rotation directions, transmitted by the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4)
• Electric power steering torque sensor (A91b1) signal, transmitted by electrical power steering control unit (N68)
• Circuit 15 status transmitted by from electronic ignition lock control unit
• Switch position of combination switch (S4), transmitted by steering column tube module control unit (N80)
• Data of steering wheel angle sensor (N49), transmitted by steering column tube module control unit
• Signal from left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110), transmitted by steering column tube module control unit

Evaluation of input factors 

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Controlling functions 

The parking system control unit controls the following functions:

• PARKTRONIC (with CODE 220 (PARKTRONIC))
• Active Parking Assist (with CODE 235 (Active Parking Assist))

Actuation of components 

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Chassis CAN 2 

Direct line 

The following components are actuated via direct lines:

• Front parking system warning indicator (A44/1)
• Rear parking system warning indicator (A44/3)
• Parking system distance sensors

Chassis CAN 2 

The parking system control unit transmits, among others, the following signals via chassis CAN 2:

• Request to display message or output warning tone to instrument cluster
• Request for parking system status display to upper control panel control unit (N72/1)
• Power steering request to electrical power steering control unit
