Transfer case oil supply, general
The oil supply system ensures that the components of the transfer case are sufficiently greased and cooled.
The flange-mounted construction means that the transfer case and automatic transmission have a separate oil system. The following oil reservoirs are present in the transfer case:
- Oil sump (4) with integrated quiet area (5)
Transfer case oil supply, function sequence
The oil supply is designed as pressure feed lubrication using a geroto pump. Via the chain, the oil is also delivered upwards out of the oil sump (4). The resulting splash oil is used for lubricating the outer bearing.

The oil from the oil sump (4) is delivered via the oil pump (3) to the main shaft and lubricates the multiplate clutch, the hydraulic clutch (rear) and the differential via the bores in the main shaft. Various component parts, among others the shift gate and the lock actuation, are supplied with oil via the chain and the splash oil. Part of the oil flows through the chain in the oil container (7) and lubricates the bearing of drive shaft via a bore in the oil container (7). The oil is also delivered to the front and rear axle output shaft via the chain and the centrifugal force. Metal abrasion and shavings are collected by a magnet (6) integrated into the front transmission housing (1). The quiet area has the task of calming the oil which has been excited by the chain and to prevent foam formation.

The oil supply of the multiplate clutch (8) is guaranteed by the oil pump (3) and the displaced bores in the sun shaft.
