Checking Friction Torque Of Tapered Roller Bearings - AR35.30-P-0470-04GW

MODEL 463

as of Model Year 2013 MOPF 2012

TEST VALUES FOR FRICTION TORQUE OF REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL

Number Designation Rear axle 741.1/5/6, 742.6 in model 460, 461, 463
BE35.30-P-1001-01B Friction torque of differential KG 4 (±0.5)
  1. Turn differential assembly several times while applying light blows to bearing cap and differential using a plastic mallet.

IMPORTANT This is to ensure that the rollers of the tapered roller bearings align and settle.

  2. Wrap cord around the differential assembly several times.
  3. Attach spring test balance (3) to the cord.

IMPORTANT Use spring balances (3) up to 6 kg.

  4. Pull on spring balance (3), spin differential assembly and read off friction torque on spring balance (3).

IMPORTANT The difference between the measured friction torque and specified friction torque must be corrected using the appropriate shims.
