REPAIR MATERIALS

BR00.45-Z-1002-07A Prussian Blue -
  1. Coat two teeth of ring gear (offset by 180°) with blue ink.
  2. Turn the drive pinion forwards and backwards while braking the ring gear with the retainer SPECIAL TOOL .
  3. Compare the contact pattern with the following illustrated examples and if necessary perform the appropriate remedial action.

IMPORTANT Precondition: Inspection of the contact pattern performed under load (ring gear braked).

An ideal contact pattern is rarely obtained in practice. It is, however, important to ensure that the contact pattern on the tooth face does not extend to the outside edge of the tooth at any point.

IMPORTANT Cause: Installation distance (basic dimension) of drive pinion too small.

Remedy: Slightly increase the installation distance (basic dimension) of the drive pinion and repeat the test of the gear backlash, if necessary readjust the gear backlash.

IMPORTANT Cause: Installation distance (basic dimension) of drive pinion too large.

Remedy: Slightly reduce the installation distance (basic dimension) of the drive pinion and repeat the test of the gear backlash, if necessary readjust the gear backlash.

IMPORTANT Cause: Gear backlash too big.

Remedy: Adjust the gear backlash and repeat the gear backlash test.
