Active Service System (ASSYST PLUS), Function - GF00.20-P-0004GW

Model 463

as of model year 2013

Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the circuit 15 status as of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.342) over the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) or up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342 over suspension CAN 2 (CAN E2) to the instrument cluster (A1).

Active Service System PLUS (ASSYST PLUS), general

ASSYST PLUS calculates when the vehicle is due for a service. This is done either after a precisely defined kilometer reading or after a certain time interval, depending on which limit is reached first. In addition, it allows the driver or the service personnel an overview of the expected service operations at the vehicle.

The calculation is performed in ASSYST PLUS, which is integrated into the instrument cluster as a software solution. ASSYST PLUS takes into account the time and distance-dependent additional operations in accordance with the vehicle equipment. The scope and the time of the due service are displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster.

ASSYST PLUS comprises the following sub-functions:

Function sequence for determining the remaining distance

The remaining distance is calculated from the difference between the stored maintenance interval data and the travel distance covered since the last service. The travel distance is calculated based on the wheel speeds. The remaining distance is the primary decisive factor for the service indicator if it will be reached before the remaining time.

As of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.342) the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) sends information about the wheel speeds over the suspension FlexRay (Flex E), electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster. Up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342 the Electronic Stability Program control unit sends information about the wheel speeds over the suspension CAN 1 (CAN E1), electronic ignition lock control unit and suspension CAN 2 to the instrument cluster.

Function sequence for determining the remaining time

The remaining time is calculated from the difference between the stored maintenance interval data and the time that has elapsed since the last service. The remaining time is the primary decisive factor for the service indicator if the remaining time will be reached before the remaining distance.

Function sequence for evaluating data

ASSYST PLUS evaluates the usage conditions of the vehicle and calculates the time and scope of the service work required. Engine-specific parameters, e. g. oil level and quality, are also taken into account.

As of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.342):

The CDI control unit (N3/9) (diesel engine) or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (gasoline engine) evaluates all the engine-specific parameters and it sends corresponding information over the engine CAN (CAN C), powertrain control unit (N127), suspension FlexRay, electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.

Up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342:

The CDI control unit (engine 642.8) or the ME-SFI control unit (engine 157, 273) sends corresponding information over chassis CAN 1, the electronic ignition lock control unit and chassis CAN 2 to the instrument cluster.

For vehicles with engine 176, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit sends the corresponding information about the engine CAN (CAN C1), powertrain control unit, suspension CAN 1, electronic ignition lock control unit and suspension CAN 2 to the instrument cluster.

Function sequence for service display

The following notes with service code can be shown in the multifunction display:

In the event that the service due date is exceeded, the following messages are shown:

IMPORTANT The service due is displayed to the specific day. The two-digit service code provides information on the scope of the operations to be carried out. The service scope is shown as a service code (e. g. "A1"). The letter denotes the service scope, and the following digit or letter provides the workshop with information about additional operations. This allows the workshop to provide the customer with the most accurate details regarding time and expense involved for the due service in advance when the appointment is made.

Function sequence for service interval reset

As of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.342):

The service interval can be reset in the workshop menu. To do so, select the "Confirm service" entry under ASSYST PLUS/Full Service. After selecting the engine oil quality used, the service can be confirmed. The menus are operated using the instrument cluster finger navigation pad (S163/1s10). The steering wheel electronics (N135) reads in the request directly and transmits this via the steering LIN (LIN E1) to the steering column tube module control unit (N80). The steering column tube module control unit sends this request via suspension FlexRay, the electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster shows the "Next Service" message. If the instrument cluster finger navigation pad is pressed for longer than t = 3 s, "Maintenance interval reset" appears on the instrument cluster. The service interval is reset.

Up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342:

Pressing the OK button (S110s6) in the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110), service can be reset. The steering wheel electronics reads in the status of the O. K. button directly and transmits it via the steering LIN to the steering column tube module control unit. The steering column tube module control unit transmits the status of the O. K. button via chassis CAN 2 to the instrument cluster. The message "Next service" appears in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster. If the OK button is pressed for longer than t = 3 s, the "Reset maintenance interval" message is shown. The service interval is reset.

Should an exchange of the instrument cluster become necessary, the current service data must be entered manually. The following parameters are required for this:
