Component Description For Steering Column Tube Module Control Unit - GF54.21-P-6051GWM
Model 463 (Except 463.342) from Model Year 2019
Arrangement
The steering column module control unit is located directly behind the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) on the steering column of the steering column.
Tasks
The steering column module control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in sensors and signals
- Evaluation of the input quantities
- Control of components
- Sending signals
Reading in sensors and signals
The input quantities are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Steering wheel CAN (CAN LR)
- Chassis FlexRay (Flex E)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read in via a direct line:
- Steering wheel angle sensor (N49)
- Combination switch (S4)
- DIRECT SELECT lever (S 16/13)
- Adjust steering column switch (S59) (Except Code VL0 (heated multifunction steering wheel))
- Adjust steering column switch and steering wheel heating (S59 / 1) (with code VL0 (heated multifunction steering wheel))
Steering wheel CAN
- Temperature sensor heating element (R22 / 4b1) (with code VL0 (heated multifunction steering wheel))
- Multi-function steering wheel instrument cluster button group (S 163/1)
- Multifunction steering wheel head unit button group (S 163/2)
- Steering wheel downshift button (S110 / 1)
- Steering wheel upshift button (S111 / 1)
The electrical control unit button group multifunction steering wheel below (A74 / 2) reads in the signals of the following components directly and sends them via the steering wheel CAN to the steering column module control unit:
- Button group 1: Multifunction steering wheel, bottom (S163 / 3) (with code U88 (AMG steering wheel buttons (AMG DRIVE UNIT)))
- Button group 2: Multifunction steering wheel, bottom (S163 / 4) (with code U88 (AMG steering wheel buttons (AMG DRIVE UNIT)))
Chassis FlexRay
The signals are read in from the jacket pipe module control unit via the chassis FlexRay.
The resulting functions are described in the respective function descriptions (see block diagram or function diagram).
Evaluation of the input variables
The input values read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the corresponding components are controlled.
Control of components
The components are controlled using the following services:
- Steering wheel CAN
- Direct line
Steering wheel CAN
The steering wheel electronics control the following components directly; it receives the signals for this via the steering wheel CAN from the steering column module control unit:
- Multi-function steering wheel button groups (lighting symbols)
- Steering wheel heating element (R22 / 4r1) (with code VL0 (heated multifunction steering wheel))
- Button group 1: Multifunction steering wheel, bottom (S163 / 3) (with code U88 (AMG steering wheel buttons (AMG DRIVE UNIT)))
- Button group 2: Multifunction steering wheel, bottom (S163 / 4) (with code U88 (AMG steering wheel buttons (AMG DRIVE UNIT)))
Direct Line
The following component is controlled via a direct line:
- Steering wheel heating control lamp (S59 / 1e1) (with code VL0 (heated multifunction steering wheel))
The following components are controlled directly by the Supplemental Restraint System (N2 / 10) control unit via a looped line:
- Squib 1 driver airbag (R12 / 13)
- Squib 2 driver airbag (R12 / 14)
Sending signals
The steering column module control unit sends signals via the chassis FlexRay.
The resulting functions are described in the respective function descriptions (see block diagram or function diagram).
