Location
The SAM control unit is located at the front on the transmission tunnel.

Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via direct lines:
- Fuel tank fill level sensor fuel level indicator (B4)
- Outside temperature sensor (B14)
- Additional battery (G1/7) (measurement values) (except Model 463.342)
- Wiper motor (M6/1) (park position)
- Supplemental Restraint System control unit (N2/10) (crash signal)
- Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) (circuit 54)
- Exterior lights switch (S1)
- Right front brake wear sensor (S10/2)
- Brake fluid level switch (S11)
- Parking brake indicator switch (S12) (except Model 463.342)
- Coolant level switch (S41)
- Windshield washer system washer fluid level switch (S42)
- Right engine hood contact switch (S62/42) (with code MJ7 (ECO start/stop function))
- Left engine hood contact switch (S62/43) (with code MJ7 (ECO start/stop function) or code FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) or code FZ8 (Alarm system))

Center console switch LIN
The signals of the lower control panel control unit (N72) are read in via center console switch LIN.
Roof LIN
The signals of the following components are read-in over the roof LIN:
- Inside rear-view mirror (A67) (with code YF9 (Garage door opener))
- Rain/light sensor (B38/2) (except Model 463.342)
- Vehicle interior humidity and temperature sensor (B82) (except Model 463.342)
- Overhead control panel control unit (N70)
- Stealth lights control unit (N1) (with code E11 (Stealth lights with convoy marking))
Battery sensor LIN
The signals from the following components are read in via the battery sensor LIN:
- Battery sensor (B95)
- Upper control panel control unit (N72/1)
- Stealth lights control unit (with code E11 (Stealth lights with convoy marking))
Interior CAN
The signals are read in by the SAM control unit via the interior CAN.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see the appropriate block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

The SAM control unit controls the following functions:

- Interior illumination
- Windshield wiper system and spray nozzle heater
- Seat heater (for Model 463.342 with code H10 (Seat heater for driver and front passenger))
- Seat heater (except Model 463.342)

Battery sensor LIN
The SAM control unit sends signals over the battery sensor LIN to the upper control panel control unit.

The signals are transmitted by the SAM control unit via the interior
CAN.
