Location
The adaptive damping system control unit is mounted under the front-passenger footplate.
Task
The adaptive damping system control unit does the following:
- Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:
- Left rear level sensor (B22/7)
- Left front level sensor (B22/8)
- Right front level sensor (B22/9)
- Right rear level sensor (B22/10)
- Left front body acceleration sensor (B24/3)
- Right front body acceleration sensor (B24/4)
- Left rear body acceleration sensor (B24/5)
Chassis CAN 1
The following signals are read in over chassis CAN 1:
- Vehicle speed as substitute value, provided by instrument cluster (A1)
- Status of circuit 61, status of "Kick down" (with transmission 722) and drive variant, provided by CDI control unit (N3/9) (for diesel engines) or by ME-SFI control unit (N3/10) (for gasoline engines)
- Status of vehicle dynamics button (N72/1s23) and body variant, provided by front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
- Wheel speed, data from yaw rate sensor for lateral and longitudinal acceleration (B24/15), status of service brake and braking torque, provided by Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) except CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS) or by Premium Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/7) with CODE 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS)
- Rotation angle and steering angle rate of change, provided by steering column tube module control unit (N80)
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Direct line
The following components are actuated via a direct line:
- Left front axle damping valve unit (Y51)
- Right front axle damping valve unit (Y52)
- Left rear axle damping valve unit (Y53)
- Right rear axle damping valve unit (Y54)
Chassis CAN 1
The following components are actuated via the chassis CAN:
- Light-emitting diode (LED) in the vehicle dynamics button from front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module via instrument panel LIN (LIN 1)
