Location

The Audio/COMAND control panel is located on the center console between the front seats.

Tasks

The Audio/COMAND control panel is the central control for the telematics functions. The Audio/COMAND control panel can be used to operate the functions shown on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).

The Audio/COMAND control panel receives the following signals:

Power supply of circuit 30g and circuit 31 via a direct line
Control data from audio equipment via telematics CAN (CAN A)

The Audio/COMAND control panel sends the following signals:

Control signals via telematics CAN to the audio equipment

Body

Depending on the equipment specification involved, the Audio/COMAND control panel is equipped with the following controls:

Audio/COMAND controller for navigation within the menu and selection of menu items, for operation of character bar on Audio/COMAND display and for navigating on the Internet
"Back" button e.g. to jump back a level within a menu
"Delete" button, to delete individual characters or complete entries
Left free programming button or right free programming button (file-capable functions can be called up quickly)
Display OFF button, to switch Audio/COMAND display off and on again

Function

The buttons are designed as push/push buttons.

The following individual operations are possible with the Audio/COMAND controller:

Press: Down vertically
Turn: To left or right
Slide: To four quadrants as well as diagonally

Variants

The Audio/COMAND control panel is installed in the version with 2 buttons under the following conditions:

"Back" button and "Delete" button on vehicles up to 9.5.13
"Back" button and right free programming button on vehicles with manual transmission (except CODE 279 (Electronic gear selector)) as from 2.3.15

The Audio/COMAND control panel is installed in the version with 4 buttons under the following conditions:

"Back" button, "Delete" button, left free programming button, right free programming button on vehicles as from 10.5.13, up to 1.3.15
"Back" button, "Delete" button, left free programming button, Display OFF button on vehicles with automatic transmission (with CODE 279 (Electronic gear selector)) as of 2.3.15
