Mobile telephone system, general
The functional scope of the mobile phone system is not only dependent on the vehicle equipment, but also on the mobile phone used and the settings on the mobile phone. A differentiation is made between the following variants for the mobile phone system:
- Basic telephony
- Comfort telephony (with CODE 386 (Comfort telephony), except CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP)): As of 1.3.13, with mobile phone contact plate; up to 28.2.13, with Bluetooth module
- Telephony with CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP)
All variants use Bluetooth® technology for data transfer.
With basic telephony, the mobile phone is connected to the audio equipment via Bluetooth®. The mobile phone can be operated with the control components of the vehicle and the vehicle's hands-free system can be used. If the mobile phone and the audio equipment are Internet capable, then the telephone connection is also Internet capable. With comfort telephony (with CODE 386 (Comfort telephony)), the connection to the mobile telephone network is also established over the multifunction antenna (exterior antenna) of the vehicle and the mobile phone is charged. As of 1.3.13, the telephone connection is Internet capable if the mobile phone and the audio equipment support Internet access.
For telephony with CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP) phone calls are made via the multifunction antenna without the mobile phone being connected to the vehicle via a suitable mobile phone cradle (accessories). If the mobile phone and the audio equipment support Internet access, then the telephone connection via the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) is also Internet capable. Since the mobile phone in telephony with CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP) is in a state that is comparable to standby or flight mode, the mobile phone's rechargeable battery is only used to a small extent. If necessary, a charging cable for the mobile phone can be connected to the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile).
The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) can also be operated without a telephone, only with a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card. Telephony via the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) requires equipment with CODE 386 (Comfort telephony). Instead of the mobile phone cradle (accessories), the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) can be plugged onto the mobile phone contact plate (as of 1.3.13) or the Bluetooth module (up to 28.2.13).
The special features of comfort telephony and telephony via the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) are summarized at the end of this document.
The mobile phone system is described here using basic telephony as an example.

A mobile phone authorized on the audio unit can also be used as a modem for access to the Internet or as a playback device as part of the Bluetooth® audio setup, cf. the documents "Internet access function" or "Audio mode function".
In order to be able to operate a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone that is authorized on the audio equipment in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support the hands-free profile (HFP) 1.0 or higher.

Bluetooth®
Using Bluetooth®, it is possible to connect modern communication devices such as personal digital assistants (PDA) or notebooks to the mobile phone system quickly and easily. Bluetooth® is a worldwide open standard for connecting Bluetooth® devices (e.g. mobile phone) wirelessly and is based on radio technology in the 2.4 GHz range. One advantage of Bluetooth®, in addition to the wide availability of Bluetooth® devices, is the uncomplicated and spontaneous connection of Bluetooth® devices. The extremely high data security (128-bit encoding) and the relatively limited radius (approx. 10 m) of this type of Bluetooth® network are what makes the use of Bluetooth® in the vehicle interesting.
The audio equipment can integrate the latest-generation mobile phones into the vehicle hierarchy via the Bluetooth® interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna. The audio equipment automatically searches for the last two connected mobile phones and connects to the mobile phone which responds first. With CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP), a search is initially made for the last two connected SAP telephones. With CODE 386 (Comfort telephony) except CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP) up to 28.2.13, a search is initially made for a mobile phone inserted in the mobile phone cradle (accessory).
If the mobile phone is not automatically connected to the audio equipment or if the audio equipment is to be establish a connection to another mobile phone, then the connection must be made manually via the telephone base function. Authorized telephones can be selected from a list. Non-authorized telephones must be authorized first. SAP telephones (with CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP)) are kept in a separate list. Up to 15 mobile phones and up to 15 SAP telephones can be authorized at the same time. If more telephones are authorized, the oldest data records in each case will be overwritten. Detailed information on authorization is available in the respective operator's manual.
Switch on/off characteristics
A mobile phone operated via Bluetooth® is switched on and off on the mobile phone itself. A mobile phone operated with Bluetooth® processes the switch-on signal internally in the mobile phone.
If configured on the mobile phone and the phone transmits the status, the Personal Identification Number (PIN) prompt only appears on the mobile phone display. PIN entry is made on the mobile phone only. The reception status is received by the mobile phone's antenna.
The display of the PIN and the reception status as well as the signals of the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally in the mobile phone. After logging into the mobile telephone network provider's mobile phone network, a display appears on the mobile phone display and the Audio/COMAND display.
The mobile phone's switch-off signal is processed internally in the mobile phone. If the rechargeable battery of the mobile phone is empty, the mobile phone is also switched off. This process also runs internally in the mobile phone.
Call signal
The audio equipment receives the call signal via the Bluetooth antenna from the mobile phone.
The audio equipment transmits the call tone via direct lines to the speaker system or, in vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or with CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit, which amplifies the signals and transmits them to the speaker system.
If the mobile phone supports "In-band ringing", the mobile phone ring tone is emitted via the speakers, otherwise the audio equipment's default ringing sound is used.
The audio equipment mutes the currently active audio source (e.g. in radio mode) (MUTE).
The call recognition is displayed by the audio equipment on the audio/COMAND display via a LVDS line.
If "Tel" was selected in the instrument cluster, the call identification is shown in the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster receives the signals from the audio equipment via the interior CAN.
Establish, end, accept, reject or toggle call
The function can be carried out using the following components:
- Mobile phone
- Telephone buttons or keypad on the audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
- Remote control (with CODE 867 (SPLITVIEW))

If the mobile phone is not operated directly, the audio equipment transmits the control signals via the Bluetooth antenna to the mobile phone. The audio equipment generates the displays corresponding to the control procedures and transmits them via LVDS line to the Audio/COMAND display.
In vehicles with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer), with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)) or with CODE 528 (COMAND incl. DVD changer), calls that are received while a call is in progress are shown on the Audio/COMAND display (call waiting). The toggle function enables a change to be made between the calls shown on the Audio/COMAND display. Voice communication only exists for the respective active telephone connection, while other connections are put on hold. The toggling function is dependent on it being supported by the mobile phone. If the mobile phone does not support toggling, when another call is accepted the call active up until then is then terminated.
Mobile phone
Operation on the mobile phone is internally processed and not forwarded to the audio equipment.
Telephone buttons or keypad on the audio equipment
The control signals of the telephone keys or the keypad on the audio equipment are processed internally.
The buttons on the audio equipment provide the following control options, for example:
- Activate basic telephone function with "TEL" button
- Enter telephone number directly using audio equipment keypad
- Establish or accept telephone connection using "Accept phone call" button
- Terminate or reject telephone call using "Terminate phone call" button
Audio/COMAND control panel
The Audio/COMAND control panel control signals are sent via telematics CAN to the audio equipment.
The following options are available to the user for dialing a telephone number, for example:
- Enter telephone number using character bar on Audio/COMAND display
- Search for telephone number in phone book
- Search for telephone number in address book (with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
- Search for telephone number using the "Call lists" menu entry in the call lists (accepted, dialed)
By selecting the corresponding operating panels on the Audio/COMAND display, calls can be accepted or rejected and it is possible to switch between various calls (toggle).
Multifunction steering wheel button groups
As of 1.3.13, the control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the audio equipment via the following route:
- Steering wheel electronics
- Steering LIN
- Steering column module control unit
- Chassis CAN 1
- Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module
- Chassis CAN 2
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN
Up to 28.2.13, the control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the audio equipment via the following route:
- Steering wheel electronics
- Steering LIN
- Steering column module control unit
- Chassis CAN
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN
A call can be established or terminated in the following manner, for example:
- Use the system selection button to open the "Telephone" menu
- Use the scroll forward/back button to select the phone book
- Use the scroll forward/back button to select the name of the person to be called
- Use the OK button to establish the call
- Use the accept/terminate phone call button in the right-hand subfield to end the call
Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
The VCS [SBS] is activated via the voice control system ON button (cf. signal path for left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group). When the VCS [SBS] is activated, a call can be established or accepted in a dialog with the voice control system.
Only the call establishment and acceptance are possible via the VCS [SBS].
The hands-free system microphone records the voice input (voice commands) and forwards this via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit. The VCS [SBS] voice output is transmitted by the COMAND controller unit to the speaker system (except CODE 810 (Sound system) and CODE 811 (Advanced sound system)). In vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system) the COMAND controller unit transmits the voice output via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit, which then outputs the signals via the speaker system.

The COMAND controller unit converts the voice commands into control signals. Possible voice commands are, for example:
- "Dial number"
- "Redial"
- "Read telephone book"
- "Open or spell entries"
The individual voice commands are listed in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".
Remote control (with CODE 867 (SPLITVIEW))
The mobile phone system can be operated using the remote control. The infrared signals from the remote control are received by the COMAND controller unit via its integrated infrared interface.
Using the phone in hands-free mode
The voice input of the outgoing telephone signals is recorded by the hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the audio equipment. The audio equipment transmits the signals via the Bluetooth antenna to the mobile phone.
Incoming voice signals are received via the Bluetooth antenna from the mobile phone by the audio equipment, which then outputs them via the speaker system (except CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system)).
In vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the audio equipment transmits the incoming voice signals via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit, which amplifies the signals and transmits them to the speaker system.

Phone book
The phone book contains the phone book entries stored in the audio equipment. The user can manage (view and delete) his contact data in the telephone book. The system can be provided with the stored information via the phone book entries and the connection established immediately.
The phonebook is called up in the basic "Telephone" function via the "Name" menu item in the application field.
The phonebook for the mobile phone is downloaded in the background or updated in the audio equipment's phonebook if the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP). Phonebook entries can be loaded as "vCards" via Bluetooth® or via the USB electrical connector onto the audio equipment.
Address book (with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
The address book contains the address entries stored in the COMAND controller unit. Address-relevant mobile phone system applications can be directly started and supplied with the stored data via address book entries. The user can manage all the contact data in the address book (view, edit, add, delete and create). Address entries can only be removed by deleting individual entries or by deleting the entire address book.
Address book entries can also be copied as "vCards" from other external devices (e.g. PDA, notebook, etc.) or data media into the address book. "vCards" can be transferred into the address book as follows, for example:
- Via Bluetooth®
- Via the Secure Digital (SD) card slot on the COMAND controller unit
- Via the USB electrical connector
Address entries can contain the following:
- Last name, first name and company
- "Yomigana field" (for phonetic notation entry of name in the
- "Katakana" syllabary) (with CODE 498 (Japan version))
- Postal addresses (private or business)
- Telephone numbers (several telephone numbers can be saved under one address entry with different symbols)
- Geo position
The call can be established via the VCS [SBS] for each entry with a completed "Yomigana field" (with CODE 498 (Japan version)).
Read access is available to the phone book of the mobile phone when the mobile phone supports the PBAP profile.
Speed-dial list
The speed dial list consists of up to ten telephone numbers to which phone book entries can be assigned with digits from 0 to 9. The user can manage the entries using the "Call lists" and "Speed dial list" menu entries.
The speed dial list is active only when the "Telephone" menu is active. Pressing the number on the keypad of the audio equipment for a longer period of time (approx. 2 s) dials up the telephone number stored and establishes a connection.
"Seamless Switch"
"Seamless Switch" provides the following functionality:
- An existing telephone conversation can be continued in hands-free mode (e.g. when getting into the vehicle) if the audio equipment is switched on and "Private mode" is not activated on the mobile phone.
- An existing telephone call can be continued on the mobile phone if "private mode" is selected on the telephone or if the telephone is removed from the mobile phone cradle.

With some Japanese mobile phones you can select how the mobile phone behaves if a connection is interrupted. If the "Switch off if connection is interrupted" setting has been selected, "Seamless Switch" cannot be activated because a brief connection interruption occurs.
Short Message Service (SMS) (except CODE 498 (Japan version))
The SMS application enables the user to manage his/her SMS messages (e.g. to read or delete them). For this, the SMS messages previously received on the mobile phone as well as the new SMS messages are forwarded to the "audio equipment".
The SMS function with basic telephony requires the Message Access Profile (MAP) to be supported.
The following SMS functions are possible:
- Receive SMS
- Read SMS via the display of the mobile phone and via the Audio/COMAND display
- Delete SMS
- Read out SMS (English or German) (with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
- Mail inbox list of the 30 most recent SMS messages, sorted by date (choice of displaying either the sender or the start of the text for each SMS)
The SMS function consists of the following subfunctions:
- Upload given SMS to audio equipment
- Receive SMS
- Call up the SMS application
- Display SMS message
- Read out SMS (with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
Upload given SMS to audio equipment
The mobile phone transmits the SMS messages already stored on the mobile phone via the Bluetooth antenna to the audio equipment.
Under certain circumstances, loading SMS messages may take a long time. This may be because of the mobile phone or the number of SMS messages in the mobile phone.
Receive SMS
The mobile phone transmits the new incoming SMS messages via the Bluetooth antenna to the audio equipment.
Call up the SMS application
The SMS function for managing (e.g. reading or deleting) SMS messages is called up using the basic "Telephone" function via the "SMS" submenu in the function bar.
The "TEL" button control signals are processed internally by the audio equipment.
The Audio/COMAND control panel control signals are sent via the telematics CAN to the audio equipment.
The Audio-/COMAND display is actuated by the audio equipment via a low voltage differential signaling line.
Display SMS message
The SMS content is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display. The audio equipment actuates the Audio/COMAND display via the low voltage differential signaling line.
Read out SMS (with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
SMS voice output is conducted via the vehicle speaker system.

Additional function requirements for Mercedes-Benz Contact (except CODE 494 (USA version) or CODE 498 (Japan version))
- Telephone number of the Service Center entered as a fixed, reserved telephone book entry in the telephone book or in the address book of the audio equipment or in the telephone book of the mobile phone
Mercedes-Benz Contact (except CODE 494 (USA version) or CODE 498 (Japan version))
The "Mercedes-Benz Contact" function provides user-friendly access to the services rendered by Mercedes-Benz Services by means of a fixed, reserved telephone book entry in the telephone book or in the address book of the "audio equipment" or the telephone book of the mobile phone. The "Mercedes-Benz Contact" function uses the hands-free system (via Bluetooth®) and supports the service acceptance process at the Service Center by voice communication with synchronous transfer of the vehicle data.
The fixed, reserved telephone book entry in the telephone book or in the address book of the "audio unit" or in the telephone book of the mobile phone is selected via one of the following components:
- Buttons on the mobile phone
- Telephone buttons or keypad on the audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
- Voice control system (with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)) or with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer))
After an active call has been established to the Service Center, the user starts the data transfer. The data is transferred after the call has been established by actuating a number key on the keypad of the audio equipment. For data transfer purposes, the audio equipment checks the kilometer reading and the maintenance computer information of the instrument cluster via the interior CAN.
In vehicles with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)) or with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer), the map data is also transferred by the navigation module integrated in the audio equipment.
The data is transmitted by the audio equipment by means of Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (DTMF) tones to the service center in the same way as when the call has been established successfully. After the data has been transferred to the Service Center, the user can talk to an employee at the Service Center or the workshop. The transmitted data is then available to the employee.
Comfort telephony (with CODE 386 (Comfort telephony), except CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP))
The mobile phone signals are sent and received via the multifunction antenna (vehicle external antenna).
As of 1.3.13, connection is established via the mobile phone contact plate in the stowage compartment (telephone compartment) beneath the armrest.
Up to 28.2.13, connection is established via the Bluetooth module in the stowage compartment (telephone compartment) beneath the armrest. A corresponding mobile phone cradle (accessories) is plugged into the mobile phone contact plate or the Bluetooth module and the respective mobile phone is then inserted into the mobile phone cradle.
Comfort telephony exhibits the following special features:
- Switch-on characteristics
- Personal Identification Number (PIN) query
- Functions of mobile phone contact plate (as of 1.3.13)

Switch-on characteristics
The mobile phone system is automatically switched on by switching on the audio equipment via a wake-up pulse from the audio equipment. The switch-on signal is sent via the following path from the audio equipment to the mobile phone:
- Mobile phone contact plate (as of 1.3.13) or Bluetooth module (up to 28.2.13)
- Mobile phone cradle (accessories)
Not all mobile phone cradles support this switch on/off feature. Additional information is available at:

Personal Identification Number (PIN) query
A prompt for the PIN is shown after switching on the mobile phone if the mobile phone is configured for this. The PIN prompt is shown by the audio equipment via LVDS line on the Audio/COMAND display as well as via interior CAN in the instrument cluster. The PIN can be entered on the audio equipment.
Functions of mobile phone contact plate (as of 1.3.13)
The mobile phone contact plate fulfills the following functions:
- Connection to multifunction antenna
- Charges the rechargeable battery of the mobile phone
Functions of Bluetooth module (up to 28.2.13)
The Bluetooth module fulfills the following functions:
- Connection to multifunction antenna
- Charges the rechargeable battery of the mobile phone
- Connection to audio equipment via Bluetooth®

The mobile phone contact plate or the Bluetooth module receives the mobile phone signals from the mobile telephone network as follows:
- Multifunction antenna
- Mobile phone and stationary heater radio remote control antenna splitter (with CODE 228 (Stationary heater))
- Cellular telephone system antenna amplifier / compensator (with CODE 228 (Stationary heater))
The mobile phone contact plate or the Bluetooth module forwards the mobile phone signals via the mobile phone cradle (accessories) to the mobile phone.
As of 1.3.13, the mobile phone transmits the mobile phone signals as Bluetooth® signals to the Bluetooth antenna. The Bluetooth antenna forwards the signals to the audio equipment.
Up to 28.2.13, the Bluetooth module transmits the mobile phone signals as Bluetooth® signals to the Bluetooth antenna. The Bluetooth antenna forwards the signals to the audio equipment.
Telephony with CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP)
The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) can be used in two different ways to make a call:
- With an inserted SIM card, the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) is a fully-functional communication module.
- Without a SIM card, the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) makes it possible to make a call using a SAP-capable mobile phone (SAP telephone) via the multifunction antenna without the telephone having to be connected in the vehicle. The required data from the mobile phone's SIM card is sent via Bluetooth® to the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile).
The mobile phone signals are sent and received via the multifunction antenna (vehicle external antenna).
The connection is established via the mobile phone contact plate (as of 1.3.13) or via the Bluetooth module (up to 28.2.13) in the stowage compartment (telephone compartment) beneath the armrest. The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) is plugged into the mobile phone contact plate or the Bluetooth module.
The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) can be removed from the mobile phone contact plate or from the Bluetooth module using a release button. The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) supports the SIM Access Profile (SAP).
If necessary, the SAP telephone can be charged using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection to the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile). To do this, the cover on the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) has to be removed.
Under "Options", a ring tone can be selected for the respective SIM card or SAP telephone from a list of ring tones.
The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) can also be used as a modem for the Internet if the audio equipment supports the function and the mobile phone contract includes a data option. Telephony with CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP) has the following special features:

- SMS
- Software update
Authorize telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile)
- Before the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) can be used in the vehicle it must be authorized. Proceed as follows to do so:
- In the basic "Telephone" function, select the "Connect MB SAP-module" using the function bar
- Press the button with an LED on the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile)
- Select the "MB APD" entry shown on the Audio/COMAND display.
Switch-on characteristics
The mobile phone system is automatically switched on by switching on the audio equipment via a wake-up pulse from the audio equipment. The audio equipment transmits the signal via the mobile phone contact plate (as of 1.3.13) or the Bluetooth module (up to 28.2.13) to the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile).
PIN prompt
A prompt for the PIN is shown after switching on the mobile phone if the SAP telephone is configured for this. The PIN prompt is shown by the audio equipment via LVDS line on the Audio/COMAND display as well as via interior CAN in the instrument cluster. The PIN can be entered on the audio equipment.
The PIN of the SAP telephone or the SIM card can be stored so that it does not need to be entered again when switched on.
Connect SAP telephone
SAP telephones must support the SIM Access Profile and be connected (authorized) once with the telephone module using Bluetooth® (SAP profile). Up to 15 SAP telephones can be authorized at the same time. The procedure when authorizing SAP telephones depends on the audio equipment, see operator's manual. After switching on the audio equipment, an automatic search is performed for the last two SAP telephones used in the vehicle, and the first one that responds is connected.
SAP telephones can only be automatically connected if the following requirements are met:
- The SAP telephone is not connected via Bluetooth® to any other device.
- There is no SIM card in the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile).
If another SAP telephone is to be connected, then the connection has to be interrupted first and then the corresponding SAP telephone manually connected by selecting it from the list of SAP telephones. The procedure when manually connecting depends on the audio equipment, see operator's manual.

The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) receives the mobile phone signals as follows from the mobile telephone network:
- Multifunction antenna
- Mobile phone and stationary heater radio remote control antenna splitter (with CODE 228 (Stationary heater))
- Cellular telephone system antenna amplifier / compensator (with CODE 228 (Stationary heater))
- Mobile phone contact plate (as of 1.3.13) or Bluetooth module (up to 28.2.13)
The telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) forwards the mobile phone signals via the Bluetooth antenna to the audio equipment.
The Bluetooth® interface of the Bluetooth module is not used.
SMS
During SMS operation, the following special considerations should be observed:

Save incoming SMS
State of the art mobile phones come with two memories for SMS messages: one on the telephone and one on the SIM card. As long as the mobile phone is used for telephony with CODE 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth SAP), incoming SMS messages in the mobile phone can only be stored on the SIM card.
Storing incoming SMS messages on the SIM card can have two consequences:
- SMS messages that have been received while the mobile phone was connected to the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) are not found in the mobile phone due to the deviating storage location.
- The memory on the SIM card is insufficient. Incoming SMS messages cannot be stored and displayed when the memory is full.
Send SMS
During telephony with the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile), it is not only possible to receive SMS messages, but also to send them. If the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) is connected to an SAP telephone, this must support the message access profile (MAP).
Software update
The USB connector on the telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP profile) can also be used for installing software updates, e.g. with a USB memory (USB stick). The update files and the procedure are made available to the customer on the Internet.
