Location

There is one xenon light control unit on the underside of the left front lamp unit and one on the underside of the right front lamp unit. The xenon light control units are tightly screwed to the housings of the front lamp units. The xenon light control units are connected to the vehicle-side wiring harness via the front lamp units.

Task

The xenon headlamp control units operate in a master-slave combination and communicate with each other via front end CAN (CAN G). As the master the left xenon light control unit synchronizes the right xenon light control unit. The xenon headlamp control units have the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Direct line

The signals of the following components are read in by the left xenon light control unit in vehicles without code (489) AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping) via a direct line:

Front end CAN

The signals are read in by the xenon light control units via the front end CAN.

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

IMPORTANT In vehicles with code (489) AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping), the vehicle level information is provided by the AIRmatic control unit (N51/3) to the chassis CAN (CAN E) and forwarded by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) to the front end CAN.

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Control of functions

The following functions are realized by actuating the appropriate components:

Actuation of components

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

Direct line

The following components are actuated via a direct line:

LIN

The following components are actuated by the left xenon light control unit via the headlamp-internal LIN:

The following components are actuated by the right xenon light control unit via the headlamp-internal LIN:
