Tasks
- Receive signals
- Processing signals
- Transmitting signals
Receive signals
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Direct lines
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
The tuner unit is a MOST subscriber and communicates via this with the audio equipment (control communication).
Direct lines
The tuner unit receives the following signals via direct lines:
- Power supply via circuit 31 and circuit 30g
- Electronic wake-up for MOST
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11) for SDAR (Satellite Digital Audio Radio) signals (with CODE 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio))
- FM 2 and DAB antenna amplifier (A2/19), for DAB band III signals (DAB 1) (with CODE 537 (Digital radio))
- TV 2 antenna amplifier (A94/2), for DAB band III signals (DAB 2) (with CODE 537 (Digital radio)) or TV 2 signals (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- TV 1 antenna amplifier (A94/1), for TV-1 signals (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- TV 3 antenna amplifier (A94/3), for TV-3 signals (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
MODEL 212 as of 3/2/15
as of model year 2016
with CODE 537 (Digital radio (DAB))
MODEL 212 as of 3/2/15
as of model year 2016
with CODE 865 (TV tuner)
The signals from the TV 2 antenna amplifier (TV or DAB band III) are received by the tuner unit at the TV 1 antenna input, since the internal antenna splitter designed to separate the DAB and TV signal is located at this antenna input. The signals from the TV 1 antenna amplifier (TV only) are received by the tuner unit at the TV 2 antenna input.
Processing signals
- With CODE 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio) the tuner unit decodes and amplifies the satellite signals (Time For Division Multiplex (TDM)) and the terrestrial signals (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (COFDM)) into PCM signals (Pulse Code Modulation).
- With CODE 537 (Digital radio) the tuner unit decodes the DAB band III signals into PCM signals.
- With CODE 865 (TV tuner), the tuner unit decodes and demodulates the TV signals and separates them into video and audio signals.
- With CODE 865 (TV tuner) and CODE 537 (Digital radio), the tuner unit separates the DAB band III signals from the TV signals at the TV 1 antenna input.
Transmitting signals
- MOST
- Direct lines
MOST
The tuner unit is a MOST participant and communicates via this with the audio equipment. The audio signals are transmitted to the audio equipment or the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with CODE 810 (Sound system) or with CODE 811 (Advanced sound system)).
Direct lines
The tuner unit sends the following signals via direct lines:
- Supply voltage via the signal line to the FM 2 and DAB band III antenna amplifier (with CODE 537 (Digital radio))
- Supply voltage via the signal line to the TV 2 antenna amplifier (with CODE 537 (Digital radio) or with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- Supply voltage via the signal line to the TV 1 antenna amplifier (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- Supply voltage via the signal line to the TV 3 antenna amplifier (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- Video signals via an LVDS line (low voltage differential signal) to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with CODE 865 (TV tuner))
Body
With CODE 498 (Japan version) the tuner unit is delivered with a "B-CAS card". The "B-CAS card" is designed as a subscriber identification module (SIM) card and is inserted in the SIM card reader. The SIM card reader is covered with a seal.
