Function requirements, general 

Mirror taximeter/mirror odometer, general 

The mirror taximeter (A50/1) is an item of auxiliary equipment used by the taxi driver to determine fares. The fare is shown in the inside rear-view mirror (A67).

The mirror taximeter/mirror odometer function comprises the following subfunctions:

IMPORTANT The instrument cluster (A1) sends the speed signal via interior CAN (CAN B) to the special-purpose vehicle multifunction control unit (N26/9).

Function sequence for activating the mirror taximeter/mirror odometer 

The mirror taximeter can be activated manually via taximeter button 1 (A67s4) or automatically if the front passenger seat is recognized as occupied. The fare is shown in the left upper area of the inside rear-view mirror. At the same time, the multifunction control unit switches off the roof sign lamp (E14/4) (with code (342) Roof sign connection for taxi). To this end, the multifunction control unit reads in the signals of the mirror taximeter via multifunction CAN (CAN K) and then deactivates the roof sign lamp. The roof sign lamp is only automatically switched on or off if this function was activated beforehand in the "Taxi", "Roof sign" menu in the instrument cluster. The occupancy status of the front passenger seat is defined via the front passenger seat occupied recognition (B41/1) (without code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE])) or the front passenger seat occupied recognition and ACSR [AKSE] (B48) (with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]).

The supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10) reads in the status of the seat occupied recognition directly and - if the front passenger seat is determined to be occupied - sends a signal via chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 1.3.13), front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and interior CAN (CAN B) to the multifunction control unit.

IMPORTANT The mirror taximeter/mirror odometer function can be automatically switched off, insofar as a deactivation time is set using a menu in the instrument cluster.

Function sequence for determining the fare 

The mirror taximeter uses the distance traveled as the basis for the calculation of the fare. The distance traveled is defined via the wheel speed, which is recorded by the left front axle RPM sensor (L6/1). The Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) (without code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) or the Premium Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/7) (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) reads in the signals of the RPM sensor directly and sends them via chassis CAN (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 1.3.13), the front SAM control unit and interior CAN to the multifunction control unit. The multifunction control unit actuates the mirror taximeter via multifunction CAN.

IMPORTANT The use of the wheel speed signal to calculate the fare is subject to the German Verification Act (Weights and Measures Act). If the taxi is also equipped with a card reader and printer (A50/2) (accessory), the fare due can be settled by card payment and a receipt can be printed out.

The fare is displayed in the dark by switching to the cash mode by pressing the 4 taximeter button (A67s7). The mirror taximeter sends the request via multifunction CAN to the multifunction control unit. The multifunction control unit then sends the request to switch on the interior illumination (IBL) via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit. The front SAM control unit sends this request via interior CAN to the overhead control panel control unit (N70) on vehicles with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding sunroof. On vehicles without code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof, the front SAM control unit actuates the overhead control panel electronics (N70/3) directly. The interior illumination is then switched on in accordance with the data from the rain/light sensor (B38/2). The front SAM control unit reads in the data of the rain/light sensor via wiper/inside rear-view mirror LIN (LIN 2).
