Voice control system, general
The individual functions of the driver information system are called up and operated via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]). The voice control system is integrated into the audio equipment. The voice control system can be controlled by spelling out or entering complete words. The voice control system is activated or deactivated via the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
- Voice control system ON button (S111s4)
- "Back" and voice control system OFF button (S110s4)
The audio equipment reads in the control signals of the voice control system buttons as follows (up to 9.5.13):
- Steering wheel electronics (N135)
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column tube module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
The audio equipment reads in the control signals of the voice control system buttons as follows (as of 10.5.13):
- Steering wheel electronics
- Steering LIN
Steering column module control unit
- Chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1)
- Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
- Chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2)
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN
Voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone (A67b1), which is connected to the audio equipment via a direct line.
The words that are spoken are converted into an electrical signal by the hands-free system microphone group and forwarded to the audio equipment. The audio equipment processes the signals internally and implements them accordingly.
Voice recognition by the processor integrated in the audio equipment requires the driver's voice to be taught in beforehand. If the driver's voice or the message of the voice command cannot be uniquely identified, the VCS [SBS] issues a query.
The audio signals are generated by the audio equipment and emitted over the speaker system, on vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3).
More detailed information on the speaker system is available in the Speaker output function information.
