Location

The TV tuner (analog/digital) is located in the trunk on the right rear in front of the wheel well cutout behind the side wall lining on a bracket.

Task

The TV tuner (analog/digital) performs the following tasks:

Receive signals

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)

The TV tuner (analog/digital) receives control signals over MOST from the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).

Direct lines

The following signals are read in by the TV tuner (analog/digital):

Demodulating and decoding signals

The TV signals that are received via the antenna amplifier are evaluated internally and separated into video and audio signals.

Transmit signals

The initial parameters are transmitted over the following connections:

MOST

The TV tuner (analog/digital) sends audio signals to the COMAND controller unit or to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system or code (811) Advanced sound system).

Direct line

The TV tuner (analog/digital) sends video signals over Y/C lines to the COMAND controller unit.

Apart from this, the following components are supplied with a phantom voltage:

Technical data
Designation
Unit Values Tolerance range Remarks
TV tuner (analog/digital)
Power supply V 14   Battery voltage UB
Voltage limits V 9   Minimum UBmin
16 Maximum UBmax
Power consumption A < 1.9   Rated power consumption IBmax
A < 1.9 Action IAction
(Standby=Operation)
mA 1 Quiescent current I0
Reverse polarity protection       YES
Additional specific parameters MHz 90 - 108   TV band 1
TV reception frequencies (analog and digital) MHz 170 - 222 TV band 3
MHz 470 - 770 TV band 4/5
Minimum voltage V ≤9 ±0.2 Minimum UBmin
If the voltage drops below the minimum value (UBmin ), all data in the volatile memories is lost.
Special features       The IS-tester can access the TV tuner (analog/digital) diagnosis over the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73), interior CAN (CAN B), COMAND controller unit and the MOST. The following service functions are supported:
  • Control unit identification
  • Fault management
  • Read fault list
  • Read freeze frame data of a fault
  • Delete fault codes
  • Wiring test of TV antenna amplifier and audio/video lines for short circuit and connection
  • Read current signal strength
  • TV antenna amplifier switched on or off
  • Read mean signal strength value - TV antenna amplifier switched on or off
  • Antenna use (TV performs long-term observation)
  • Test picture and test audio
  • Programming TV parameters, i.e. National settings and audio and video lines used
  • Read TV parameters
  • Control module reset
  • Write and read permanent channel list for special usage areas (workshop list)
Flash capability/coding capability       Profi-compatible flashable/SCN coding
