The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit is located in the trunk at the left behind the trim on the sidewall.

Receive signals 

The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit receives signals over the following connections:

• Direct lines 
• Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) 

Direct lines 

The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit reads in the following signals over direct lines:

• Circuit 30g
• Circuit 31
• Electronic wake-up signal
• DAB Band III signals from the antenna structure in the rear window via the FM 2 and DAB antenna amplifier (A2/19) (model 218.3) or via the FM 2, DAB, and TV antenna amplifier (A2/19) (model 218.9) and the TV antenna splitter (A2/89) (model 218.9 with CODE 865 (TV tuner))

Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) 

The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit reads in the following signals from the audio equipment via MOST:

• Control signals
• FM station lists
• FM signals (for "seamless linking")
  • As of 1.7.11 with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))
  • As of 1.6.12 with CODE 510 (Audio 20 with CD changer) or with CODE 523 (MB Audio 20 radio)

Decoding of signals 

The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit decodes the Band-III signals into pulse-code-modulation (PCM) signals.

Transmitting signals 

The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit sends signals over the MOST:

• DAB status and station lists to the audio equipment
• Audio signals to the following control units:
  • Audio equipment (except CODE 810 Sound system) and except CODE 811 (Advanced sound system))
  • Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with CODE 810 (Sound system) or with CODE 811 (Advanced sound system))

Body 

In vehicles as of 1.7.11 with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer) or CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)) and in all vehicles as of 1.6.12, the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit is designed as a twin tuner and supports the extended audio codec DAB+ and Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) audio.
