Removing, checking and installing rear axle brake pads - AR42.10-P-1700EL

Model 218 (except 218.374/375/376/392/974/975/976/992)

IMPORTANT Notes on installing brake wear indicator contact sensors   AH42.10-P-0003-01CW
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove brake caliper (2) and fasten - with lines attached - to vehicle free of tension   AR42.10-P-0080EL 
NOTES
Do not subject the brake hose and electrical line to tension and do not kink them.
The brake hose and the electrical line can otherwise be damaged.
 
2 Remove brake linings (6) from brake caliper support (8) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Insert inner brake lining (6) with riveted-on spring into brake piston. Insert outer brake lining (6) into brake caliper support (8).
Only complete sets of brake linings (6) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
Do not apply any brake paste or lubricants to brake pads (6) and brake calipers (2).
 
INSPECT Check     
3 Check brake linings (6) for wear and that they are in good condition    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4253A 
    IMPORTANT
In case of damage or excessive wear:
↓
Replace brake linings (6).
IMPORTANT Replace brake linings (6) as a complete set only.
 
4 Check brake disk (9) for wear and that it is in good condition    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 218 (except 218.374/375/376/392/974/975/976/992)
except code B07 (Ceramic brake system)
In case of damage or excessive wear:
↓
Replace brake disk (9).

IMPORTANT Replace brake disks (9) as a complete set only.

CLEAN Clean     
5 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (6) on brake caliper (2) and on brake caliper support (8) NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects. Otherwise, the dust boot, brake caliper (2) or the brake caliper support (8) may be damaged.
 
Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
6 Pull out right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4) out of pad backing plate of brake lining (6) When replacing the brake linings (6) or when replacing the rear right brake wear sensor (S10/4).  
7 Install in the reverse order    
8 Depress brake pedal several times until brake linings (6) rest against brake disks (9) IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
9 Check/correct brake fluid level in expansion reservoir    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210EW 
10 Carry out brake test on the test stand    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.00-P-4290BA
