DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Set DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch to position "N" and release parking brake    
2 Detach ground line from battery Model 463 with engine 176 AR54.10-P-0003GW
    Engine 177 in model 205 AR54.10-P-0003LW
3 Remove left and right air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150MNA
4 Remove insulation (1)    
5 Remove side heat shield (4) of left ATL Engine 177 in model 205 AR09.40-P-6026MNA
6 Remove screw/bolts (5) and place crash plate (6) to one side Engine 177 in model 205  
7 Unclip electrical line (7) on fuel line (12)    
8 Remove the ignition coil (8) Engine 177 in model 205 AR15.12-P-2003MNA
9 Remove position sensor of camshafts Engine 176 in model 463 AR15.12-P-2144MNF
    Engine 177 in model 205 AR15.12-P-2144MNA
10 Remove lower engine compartment paneling Engine 176 in model 463

11 Detach front circulation pump for low-temperature water circuit and place with attached lines and hoses to one side Engine 176 in model 463 AR09.41-P-6925MNF
12 Rotate engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of engine rotation to a 40°crank angle (CKA) after top dead center (TDC) on cylinder 1 (ignition TDC)   AR05.10-P-7620-04MNA

13 Relieve fuel pressure over diagnostic socket (9)   AR07.03-P-1460-01MNA
    SPECIAL TOOL Pressure hose Fig 5
14 Disconnect electrical connection (10)    
15 Remove screw/bolts (11) for bracket on diagnostic socket (9)    
16 Remove screw/bolts on the fuel lines holder (12, 13) at left cylinder head cover and remove left cylinder head    
17 Remove filler neck (14)    
18 Open mounting clamp (15) and detach fuel line (13) from hose (16)    
19 Detach fuel line (12) on rail (17) NOTES Thoroughly clean area around fuel line (12) on the locations to be separated.
Failure can occur otherwise to the fuel system.
NOTES Do not kink or bend fuel line (12). Otherwise leaks and damage may occur.

20 Detach fuel lines (12, 13) on left fuel system high pressure pump (2) and place to one side NOTES Thoroughly clean area around fuel lines (12, 13 at the locations to be separated.
Failure can occur otherwise to the fuel system.
NOTES Do not kink or bend the fuel lines (12, 13).
Otherwise leaks and damage may occur.

21 Remove screw/bolts (18) and remove left fuel system high pressure pump (2) upwards NOTES Screw/bolts (18) must be removed alternately each by half a revolution each time when removing the left fuel system high pressure pump (2).
Damage could occur to the left fuel system high pressure pump (2) otherwise.
NOTES Thoroughly clean area around the fuel high-pressure circuit.
Failure can occur otherwise to the fuel system.
Assembly cleaner

INSTALLING Install     
22 Replace sealing ring of the left fuel system high pressure pump (2)    
23 Attach left fuel system high pressure pump (2) with screw/bolt (18) to left cylinder head cover NOTES Screw/bolts (18) must be screwed in alternately each by half a revolution each time when installing the fuel system high pressure pump (2).
Damage could occur to the left fuel system high pressure pump (2) otherwise.
IMPORTANT The left fuel system high pressure pump (2) must lie flat on the cylinder head cover after tightening the screw/bolts (18).
IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts (18).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, fuel system high pressure pump to cylinder head

INSPECT Check     
24 Check fuel lines (12, 13) for damage and replace if necessary Engine 176 in model 463 AR07.03-P-1010-03MM
    Engine 177 in model 205
NOTES The sealing cone for the fuel lines (12, 13) must be checked before assembly. This prevents leaks and damage.

25 Attach fuel lines (12, 13) to left fuel system high pressure pump (2)   AR07.03-P-1010-02MNA
    NOTES Do not kink or bend the fuel lines (12, 13).
Otherwise leaks and damage may occur.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Union nut, fuel line to fuel distributor/fuel system high-pressure pump

26 Attach fuel line (12) to rail (17)   AR07.03-P-1010-02MNA
    NOTES Do not kink or bend fuel line (12).
Otherwise leaks and damage may occur.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Union nut, fuel line to fuel distributor/fuel system high-pressure pump

27 Push fuel line (13) onto hose (16) and close off mounting clamp (15) IMPORTANT Replace mounting clamp (15).  
28 Install filler neck (14) IMPORTANT When inserting the filler neck (14) make sure that the sealing ring is not damaged.
IMPORTANT Replace sealing ring.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, filler neck to cylinder head cover

29 Attach bracket of fuel lines (12, 13) to left cylinder head cover and left cylinder head    
30 Screw in screw/bolts (11) on diagnostic socket bracket (9) and tighten diagnostic socket (9) to left cylinder head cover TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, fuel line service connection to left cylinder head cover *BA07.03-P-1002-01H 
31 Connect electrical connection (10)    
32 Mount front circulation pump for low-temperature water circuit Engine 176 in model 463 AR09.41-P-6925MNF
33 Install lower engine compartment paneling Engine 176 in model 463

37 Screw in screw/bolts (5) and tighten down crash plate (6) Engine 177 in model 205
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, shield plate to cylinder head

38 Install side heat shield (4) of left ATL Engine 177 in model 205 AR09.40-P-6026MNA
39 Install insulation (1)    
40 Install left and right air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150MNA
41 Attach ground line to battery Engine 176 in model 463 AR54.10-P-0003GW
    Engine 177 in model 205 AR54.10-P-0003LW
42 Switch on ignition NOTES The ignition must be switched on for 5 s before the engine start in order to fill the fuel system high pressure pump (2) with fuel.
Damage could occur to the left fuel system high pressure pump (2) otherwise.
 
INSPECT Check     
43 Check fuel high-pressure circuit   AR07.03-P-1010-04MM
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
44 Perform an engine test run and check fuel system for proper operation and leaktightness
