The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed on the right side in the same way in the event of damage.
- Install rear fender (1), rear bumper, trunk lid, taillamp, door seal and lock striker and fit.
- Check and adjust gap dimensions.
- Fix rear fender (1) in place.
- Remove rear bumper, trunk lid, taillamp, door seal and lock striker.
- Drill Ø 6.7 mm rivet holes in rear fender (1) (areas A and B).
Drill rivet holes through existing holes in body (area B).
- Countersink rivet holes on body (area B).
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Deburr rivet holes on rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
- Install rubber window spacers from glazing repair kit as spacers on outer rear wheel well at uniform intervals (area G).
- Apply sealant to foam parts and outer rear wheel well (areas E, F and G).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas (areas C and D).
Apply 2-component adhesive to inside (area D).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces. Observe manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of adhesive.
- Install rear fender (1), fit and fix in place.
- Rivet rear fender (1) with Ø 6.4x12 rivets (area H).
- Rear fender (1)
(areas I).
- Rear fender (1)
(area J).
- Rivet rear fender (1) with Ø 6.4x14.0 blind countersunk-head rivets (area K).
- Rear fender (1)
(areas L).
- Rear fender (1)
(areas M and N).
Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.
- Grind inert gas welds down flat (areas M and N).
- Solder surfaces on rear fender (1) with body solder and smooth (areas M and N).
- Remove solder residues and grinding dust.
